New Victoria Harbour image up. This one is a great view of the downtown area, an awesome view of the Parliament Buildings....and the first of a different numbering system. :-)

The two CPR ships from the left are Princess Marguerite and Elaine.

Christ Church Cathedral is under construction with the north tower not finished and the south tower much shorter.

The old YMCA is at the corner of Blanshard and View.

The Odeon Theatre is seen.

The Normal School is at Richmond and Landsdowne, and the old Lansdowne airfields is still there, but no planes and no school yet.

There are twin radio towers at UVIC lands, but I can't make out the old army huts.

Can someone help me out here? I've noticed an interesting building that seems to no longer be standing.

Zoom into the reservoir near the top left corner of the image.
Just below the far-left corner of the reservoir, there's a building with some sort of stack in front. I believe it is where the Sikh Temple is now, Blackwood and Topaz. Anyone know what it is?

The only tall thing I see is the flag pole from the Sikh Temple in that location. I don't see a stack.

Visit my blog at: https://www.sidewalkingvictoria.com

It has a whole new look!

At least I am assuming that it was still a temple in those days.

I think this is the building in the photograph, and the photo was taken from the flagpole looking east. You can just make out the staircase at maximum zoom.

If you look at today's flagpole on Google Maps, the pole is wrapped and has some sort of hydraulic device attached.

Outstanding pix, Mark. Thanks for sharing. I'm waiting patiently to see if there are any shots in your Dad's collecton of the outlying areas like View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Sooke, Sidney, etc.

Hi, if there are....they're not labelled as such. They REALLY liked taking photos of the Inner Harbour. :-) But there are SO many to go through. It's still possible that some might turn up.

You can see the old warehouse on Bay Street near Shelbourne in that latest pic.

It looks like there was a lane (mid-block walkway) running from Fort to Broughton St. between Douglas and Blanshard, where the parking lot with the worst mural in the world is now. Also, amazing to see the number of large buildings which are now gone (several 5 and 6 storey, and 8 and a 10 storey building).

Couldn't see your post on page 2, but the temple photo was not hard to find. I enjoy doing a bit of sleuthing of photos, much like you did with convincing results of the photo of Victoria taken from Squim.

Wow, sorry I missed this thread before - awesome photos, thanks for posting.

The shot of Topaz Heights is pretty cool. I'm close by, but rarely go in there. When I do I'm always struck by how unique it is. That shot really shows how some neighbourhoods can be hidden in plain sight.

I know, you drive in, you have streets going off on angles, wacky curves, a stop sign on two strangely intersecting streets. Then a block later it's all over.
