Many folks in SF live in a bubble. I won't entirely expect them to act differently then the rest of America.

The stock is up almost 40% since December. Lots of room to raise additional capital.

Tesla Inc. set a record for deliveries and production in the first quarter, beating analysts’ estimates as Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk prepares to begin building the Model 3 in July. The maker of electric cars and energy-storage devices shipped just over 25,000 vehicles in the year’s first three months, Palo Alto, California-based Tesla said in a statement Sunday. That topped the average forecast of 24,200 from three analysts and should bolster confidence in Tesla’s target of delivering as many as 50,000 autos in this year’s first half. “It’s all about the Model 3 right now, but this is very good news,” Ben Kallo, an analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co., said in an interview. “25,000 units is the best we could have thought, and people are looking at Model 3 for growth.”

On Monday, the smallest and youngest publicly held U.S. carmaker climbed as much as 5.7 per cent in early trading, a day after reporting 25,000 first-quarter deliveries and exceeding analysts’ estimates. Tesla’s surging shares have boosted its market value to US$47.8 billion, about US$2.7 billion more than Ford.

Sounds crazy, and perhaps it is, but Tesla isn't just a car company. They are also a renewable energy company on the solar and storage side.

Falcon Heavy is a brand new rocket that's set to launch for the first time ever on February 6, SpaceX announced on Saturday.
The buzz can be attributed to the Falcon Heavy's size: It will be the most powerful rocket in the world. It's built by SpaceX -- the industry-disrupting rocket maker started by billionaire Elon Musk.
For its first test mission, the Falcon Heavy will launch a dummy payload. Specifically, it'll send a cherry red Tesla (TSLA) roadster from Musk's personal collection into deep space. There's no scientific reason to send the car to space. But it does serve as self-promotion for Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla.
When asked on Twitter why he wanted to throw away a $100,000 car, he replied, "I love the thought of a car drifting apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future."
SpaceX delivers a webcast of their launches here.

Really? Are they actually going to get that car into orbital escape velocity? Nope; looking into it some more, it'll end up in a solar orbit, possibly crashing into Mars some day. Assuming the whole thing doesn't blow up, which sounds likely.

Well, won't the first settlers need a car there? The first business can be an autobody shop to take out the dings.

If he wanted a real publicity stunt, the car should land on mars and become a rover... it's already got the self driving stuff done, ya?

They finally got their first Model 3 in the showroom in Scottsdale. People lined up for a chance to sit in it. I don't get it, it seems it must be the same people who line up at Apple stores when some new device is being unveiled.

Loved the hhgttg (Don't Panic) and Bowie (Starman) references! Seems Musk has quite the sense of fun.

He pretty much did a real life version of the opening scene of "Heavy Metal". It's what I would have done at age 12 if I had a few billion dollars.

Yeah, a big, big oops. It's a bit of a bad marketing situation where Tesla just sent up "space junk."
