MV Christy Clark.
Sounds like a sinking ship to me.

MV Justin Trudeau would get a lot of selfies, no?

BC Ferries plans to add a ship a year for next dozen years, president says
This makes sense. With roughly 40 vessels in the fleet, and a historical vessel lifespan around 50 years. Might as well plan for replacement slowly as part of a regular fleet renewal strategy.

Also, can have a spare vessel operating so there is never/rarely a missing one...

Are you offering to pay for that?

From September 2017 on the fleet will have the most flexibility is has had since the late-90s when assets started getting sold off.
Hopefully this momentum continues.

I believe the first of the Spirits goes for its upgrades this fall. Wonder if the plan is to use one of the Salish class vessels as the 4th peak period vessel on Route 1, or if they will borrow a C-class or Coastal from one of the other routes.

Coastal. C class will never run on Route 1.

We have a spare Coastal in off-season, always parked at Swartz don't we?

Probably a couple as well as the Q of NW during low periods. I am thinking of a 4th vessel to cover peak periods (Christmas for instance). Which would be the same time that extra coastal is needed on Route 2. I am going on the assumption that all current Spirits, Coastals, and C-Classes (as well as the Q of NW) are all put in service during peak periods in the winter. If that assumption is wrong (I haven't looked that closely at the winter peak schedules), then no problem, we would have a spare vessel. If it's correct, then one route somewhere is going to be minus a full sized vessel based on the current fleet.

Please remind me why. Does it have something to do with ramp configurations?

They're all getting long in the tooth.

It's probably just hardly worth it. You have a ferry now every 1-2 hours with a 400-car capacity, and you try to bolster that with a once every-4 hour ferry (one ferry back and forth) that carries 100 cars?

I believe it's a variety of reasons. For example, not all the ships fit into all of the berths. Most Route 1 vessels have buffets. Some can hold bigger/longer trucks.
The biggest reason I have heard why we won't see a C Class vessel on Route 1 is they have relatively low power. They want/need the Route 1 ships to have a certain amount of power to transit Active Pass, which has very strong currents and lots of traffic.
