Although this morning's fire appears to be arson (suitable for the crime thread), we had talked about creating another thread that was outside of vehicle/traffic incidents.

So this thread is for emergency services (fire, ambulance) comings and goings, and breaking news.

So....

ABC Restaurant at Cloverdale and Blanshard (I think it actually has an Alder address) appears to be substantially damaged from an early-morning arson fire.

Very little if any damage to the Accent Inn next door.

A large fishing vessel has rammed the HMCS Winnipeg while it was docked. 6 sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Fishermen terrorists?

Well it will certainly give them ideas.

If a vessel that size was being towed, why was there not a second tug alongside to nudge it away from the Winnipeg after the cable snapped?

We are hearing there were two tugs. Why didn't the Winnipeg use its Phalanx CIWS to defend itself?

The accident appeared to leave the bow of the fishing boat embedded in the forward side of the Canadian frigate

That ship sleeps 134, intense. The processors onboard work 12-16 hour shifts.

Every time I picture a fishing boat I think of the Andrea Gail. The American Dynasty is a serious piece of fishing gear.

Probably during that photo, the processors were on a unscheduled break. And strapped down.

Was there a Canadian Pilot on board or just the US Captain?

The factory fisher was supposed to be going into the Graving dock.

Well, some say it was not under its own power, so a pilot might have been helpless.

I wonder who was on the bridge, and was all the navigation equipment working, and did they make the scheduled course change in time, and what about visibility, the weather...?

They caught themselves a Canadian Warship. That almost qualifies this story to be on "The Deadliest Catch."

I wonder if this incident is similar to what happens when you hit the gas instead of the brake and drive through the window of the hairdressers.

Or was there a medical emergency on the bridge of the trawler?
