This would never have happened if the barge had been going 40 km/h.

Obviously the only way to right that is to load more weight (cars) onto the highest part.*

^ Or offload from the lowest side, as they appear to be doing...
Also, according to the TC, an eye witness saw what she thought were 300 to 400 cars fall off the barge into the water. The white boom you see in the water is to contain any oil that may have leaked from the debris.

Run it aground at high tide and bring another barge alongside to off load the cars, or build a ramp and drive them off.

I regularly watch the barge being loaded and I am sure that the height of crushed cars stacked this time is significantly higher than 'normal'. Disgusting to see the mess in the water.

Remember the height has to clear the Bay Bridge, although when I lived at Dockside Green I remember watching those barges approaching the bridge and from my vantage point they always "appeared" to be playing chicken with the height.
However, on close inspection of the small pic in post 626 above, in does appear that there might be a couple of extra layers of height in the failed barge compared to the pic of a successfully stacked barge below (from a couple of years ago).

Good news is that Seaspan and Snitzer both have lots of money. The fines should be enough to pay for the cost overruns on our bridge!

Drive them off? At the very least a few will likely require a jump-start.
I hope they don't run into bad weather if the barge is that tipsy.

Wow, the barge accident made the top news story on both the Global and CTV Vancouver news channels last night. Lots of interviews etc.
Of course today, RALMAX is to the rescue with the Salish Sea onsite. Also, I just grabbed some shots of the tugs pulling an empty barge, none other than the RALMAX ONE (the barge I made a video of), from the Upper Harbour to the site. As far as I know, this is its first use as the newly restored barge. I assume the Salish Sea will start removing the load onto the RALMAX ONE.
I would suggest a moderator move these posts to a new thread, like "scrap metal barge accident" since this is an ongoing cleanup that may take some time.

Yes it made the news but Chek News's false location was picked up by Global and the other station.
This is not in the Gorge Waterway as it is being reported .
It is in the Upper Harbour.
Global has even said its in the inner harbour
The Gorgewaterway doesnt officially start until one passes the Selkirk Tresle
