Yeah, the Corvair is what Ralph Nader said was "unsafe at any speed". Then there was that one that frequently crashed, the Comet. Engines inset in the wings. Metal fatigue.

Ever since Boeing moved its operations to Chicago and became a different company in doing so, things have been different.

I mean, how many people even know Boeing operates a South Carolina plant in addition to Everett and Renton?

^There was a big culture shift after the merge with McDonnell Douglas.

Same with Air Canada and CP Air. Rivals become family.

They've been operating plants outside of Washington State long before the move to Chicago, though. They had a major presence in Witchita, Kansas from the late 1920s until they sold the plant to Spirit AeroSystems in 2005 (who is now a major Boeing supplier). They also operated a couple of plants in Oklahoma that were also sold off.

The key change at Boeing after they moved to Chicago was switching from basically building all planes and parts from design to delivery, to focusing more on design and final assembly only. So essentially now they just gets their parts from all of these other suppliers (many of whom operate out of those former Boeing plants) and only do final assembly at their plants.

Comet was the first jetliner in service and the metal fatigue was due to square windows and a pressurized cabin

Agree with that, and also changed from a company run by engineers to a company run by MBA's.

Plane crashes on Vancouver Island According to the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, a plane bound for Tofino Saturday did not arrive. A crash site was found Sunday morning near the Stewardson Inlet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. There is no word yet on injuries or the numbers of passengers on board.

Don't shed a tear. He could walk away with severance and benefits totaling up to $60 million USD. Congratulations! Here's your cheque, hey, only a few dozen died.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere at the airport with the live music in the rotunda.

As for a return if United Airlines to YYJ, I've been told and heard between Frontier and Southwest fighting tooth and nail for those new gates at DEN, and a "once daily", & < 80 seat aircraft, this route won't be here in 2020 or beyond. Without Pre-clearance, YYJ's US destinations won't grow.

I'd still like to see another CEO interview by VV, and no more of the same repeated lines they use over and over to explain why the airport is in such a stalemate.

Pre-clearance is such a no-brainer at YYJ with US CBP officers already in the region for ferry service. It’s honestly a joke that VAA hasn’t pushed harder for it. I put it as the runaway #1 issue at the airport, followed by a lack of a lounge space (something similar to what’s at YQB would be ideal).

With the expansion of Sunwing service this year, Victoria is now connected to 6 Mexico destinations rather than the 4 mentioned in the article. Those 6 being Cancun, PV, Mazatlan, Cabo, Ixtapa, and Huatulco.

How many would use a lounge to wait for their flight to YVR? Or how many passengers connect flights through YYJ to other destinations and would thus be lounge users? I think, in both cases, not many.

Mrs. Sparky and I just hopped on their direct flight to Ixtapa on Saturday. Very organized. Wheels up 15 minutes early. Nice aircraft but the seats don't recline.

That's odd, YYJ's website does not list the two new Mexican destinations.

Let them know, one thing they certainly ignore is keeping an up-to-dated website. Like pulling teeth to get them to post updates or info on things.

Asked why the taxi way Echo extension is incomplete 2 months later, told maybe in February …….
