NTSA has nothing to do with air travel so unlikely they are involved.

Now how or why would such a thing happen?
The boxes are supplied with power from the engines, when the engines shut down, which seems to be the case here, the boxes stop recording. This is intentional so that in the event of a crash, the boxes don't keep recording, overwriting the data that preceded the crash.

That makes no sense to me, they record for hours before overwriting.

Just noticed over the last week + that Jazz has a number of Dash Q400's out of service and most regional and inter provincial service is being operated by their CRJ 900's, including YYJ for half the flights to here.

I think they are only about 30-60 minutes, in older planes.

CVR's record for two hours, Data recorders for about 25. If the aircraft crashes in a remote area it may take a long time for the wreckage to be found.

So why should they turn off if the engines fail? Still dont get it, espicially since you really want those few minutes after the engines fail, ten minute delay after engine failure works fine.

^Any chance the plane had a total electrical failure? That might explain the lack of flap use etc. and also might explain the early black box outage even though the engines were still running.

WestJet's Top 20 busiest routes in Canada.
YYJ hit the 3rd spot as the only carrier operating YYC->YYJ route.

Because the engines are the only thing supplying electrical power to the units, engines quit, power quits.

I think there is a VERY good chance of this.
The issue for many though, is did the pilots shut of a perfectly good engine or two? MANY planes have crashed after pilots shut off the wrong engine.
But the thing is, if they shut off engines we should have cockpit recording and some data of that. But they say we do not.

This thing doesn’t have a battery?
The plane does, but in this era that battery was not connected to the recorders. Or something.

There will be a CVR recording up until the engines were shut down.

Nope, no battery backup on this version of 737.
Dude just throw a $40 Amazon UPS on there.
New regs state that there has to be a 10 minute backup power supply, but the way the rules are written all 737's can have an exemption until they are no longer produced and a new airframe is introduced.

Is it not in everyone's best interests to have these operational, regardless of when they were installed? As usual, I must be missing something.

VAA updated their website for projects and future planning
https://yyj.ca/our-f...jects-planning/
Yes, projects that are needed, but nothing for the " bursting at the seems " terminal.
Now that all public viewing areas of the busy tarmac have been removed for admin and required airport staff screening point, with no indication of returning them any time soon.
In 2025 more curb side parking is going to be limited and removed to force more cars into the short term parking lot.
