^ seems like a repeat / revision of previous announcements, just more concrete?
Posted 24 January 2022 - 10:36 AM
Yes, now it's actually nailed down and ready to go, and of course, involving a major player in BC real-estate development.
Reliance is going to bring significant know-how to the execution.
Now just wait for the eventual port to be constructed. Where will cruise ships want to dock? At a warehouse in a concrete parking lot in James Bay, or at a modern, oceanside community with stores, restaurants, pubs, etc? The GVHA has to step things up a bit or they might be outpaced by a future West Shore port.

It's a 30 minute walk.
There is no other port of call along a cruise excursion (likely anywhere in the world) that requires people to hoof it that far to hit a bar. That's why the GVHA wants to redevelop Ogden Point, and Royal Beach is going to be the driver to do it.

I am guessing you haven't been on too many cruises. There are plenty of ports that make Ogden Point seem luxurious.

I'd be very surprised if a port is part of this at all. Maybe a wharf of sorts; seems like this could be a good area to add a place to go crabbing.

It's not part of the $1.2 billion, but the shore can already accommodate a deep sea port. If Colwood wants its ferry to operate from there, that will require a proper port, not just a dock.
We sometimes get too complacent with thinking that what is today, must be tomorrow. It's a no brainer to build a port in Colwood.

Thats supposed to be a passenger ferry, right? A dock would work just fine.

A new phase of single-family-homes are now on the market, known as Tideline Lane. The eight residences are SFDs. It's very competitive out there for a home, with inventory not lasting long.
New homes released at Colwood's Royal Bay as Langford's Westview unveils single-family and townhome offerings

Abstract will be building townhomes at Royal Bay:
Abstract Developments has purchased an 80,000 square foot site in Royal Bay at 82 Trumpeter Street. This is the company’s first time working in the City of Colwood where they plan to build townhomes to compliment the growing community of Royal Bay.
“We’ve been watching Royal Bay for several years and have been impressed with the way the community has expanded and thrived,” said Tavish Rai, Executive Vice President, Abstract Developments. “Our new property is close to both the trail network and Meadow Park and makes for a perfect site to add to the mixture of homes at Royal Bay.”
Abstract Development’s new site is the last townhome site in the desirable Meadows neighbourhood of Royal Bay. Plans are in the works to determine the total number of townhomes to best suit the site with the goal of introducing them to the market next year.
“We are excited to be attracting high quality development teams to Colwood as we work to provide a range of housing types for people at every stage of life, all with connections to nature for a healthy lifestyle,” said Colwood Mayor Rob Martin.
Now nearing completion in 2023, the Meadow neighbourhood will include 900 homes in a mix of single-family homes, townhomes and apartments.
Royal Bay’s commercial and retail offering, Commons Village Centre, will open next year and will include Quality Foods, Cascadia Liquor, a daycare, pharmacy, food services, and other retail offerings. Recently, Royal Bay was confirmed as the location for the Royal BC Museum Collections & Research Building. Future plans for the community include a new seniors’ long term care facility and elementary school.
Earlier this year, Abstract won the Green Builder of the Year and Best Townhouse Project for the recently completed Avery Lane, from the Victoria Residential Builders Association.
Abstract has recently expanded into Esquimalt and Langford after more than two decades of working in Victoria, Oak Bay and Saanich.
