I wasn't sure where to put this, but there was a sizeable crew at the big abandoned building in Chinatown sandwiched between the two parking lots this morning. I saw some people coming in with a scissor lift. Anyone know what's happening here?

There are two recent BPs. One was issued in May for non-structural strip-out, and one on hold is for an interior renovation to create a "gym/personal services centre with coffeeshop." Whatever that means.

The affordable housing development (5 storeys) planned for 2558 Quadra is going to a public hearing on Sept 3 (council meeting).

More digging going on at the Victoria/Esquimalt border on that empty lot on Esquimalt at Dominion.

I believe it's just more soil rehab work. The site was quite a mess, as I believe a service station was on that property some time ago.

The lot has had venting pipes in it for a few years I think. I'm wondering now, if the remediation is complete, is there a plan. Across Dominion, the Union Hall and parking lot is also ripe for redevelopment. With some imagination, that whole block could make one heck of a Welcome to Esquimalt statement.

If I’m not mistaken, there was a report to Council a few years back that indicated a desire by the Township of Esquimalt to work with the CoV on turning that land into a prominent gateway. I don’t know if anything came of it, but it was noteworthy that Esquimalt had reached out and made that comment to the CoV.

Don't gateways between the CoV and adjoining municipalities usually involve some sort of non-consultational reimagining of cross-border roads?

That’s why I found the comment in the staff report so noteworthy!

Esquimalt should be glad Victoria didn’t close the road at the border. But they did put a giant speed hump in one block over on Old Esq.

And once again, the CoV gets involved in something completely outside of their mandate. Can’t some things be left between a man and wife and the 15 minutes before the in-laws come over for dinner?

That’s where the speed hump comes in. It slows them down a little so you really have about 17 minutes.

Looks like it's pretty much ready for "supportive" housing now.

Might as well have it start out in the state in wil be in soon anyway.

931 McClure, planned by Purdey Group & Aryze, underwent a few design changes over the summer.
