Is it my imagination or has part of the excavation on the NE corner of the site been filled in? If so, will it not need to be re-excavated in order to proceed with phase 2 of this project?

yes it has. They have built a ramp up to Caledonia and they have been assembling rebar cages there as well.
Is it my imagination or has part of the excavation on the NE corner of the site been filled in? If so, will it not need to be re-excavated in order to proceed with phase 2 of this project?

That's the former corner/grocery store facing Douglas/Caledonia.

I can only guess they took the roof off to stop squatters. And now it just sits.

It looks as though they left all the construction rubble inside to prevent that. Honestly, the only reason it looks like they put the fence around it is that those walls are unstable when no roof supports them from swaying in the wind.

I'm just guessing to stop squatters. And they want the new buyer, if there is one, if it's for sale, to pay for the demolition.

The reach of the crane's boom is so far I've seen it swung overtop of the Jack Davis building, lifting items off of the top of the old Bay parkade.
