Oh, I have a Pizza Hut story.  They used to have those timers they'd place on your table.  Pizza in 14 minutes or whatever it was, or free.   Well, we had "acquired" one so we started it running a few minutes before we placed our order.  Waitress places our timer, we switch it out for the one we already counting down.

I hear they were on to that ploy, and had a four day old pizza ready to go that had fallen on the floor a few times.

Toys R Us reportedly moving to liquidate all American assets. Canadian branch has no comment, but says it's "business as usual" up here.

Translation: liquidation is probably in cards here as well...eventually.

^true, but look at Sears, 8 or so months after Sears Canada declares bankruptcy, Sears USA is still around.  Not saying Sears USA won't go bankrupt, but the same time lag could happen with Toy R Us

Sears USA closing 100 stores this year, about 1/6th of their locations.

So the death-knell has been sounded there as well.

or they could be closing the worst performing stores.  It means nothing

For example Starbucks closed 600 stores in the US, 8% of their US stores, they must be done too?

Starbucks overbuilt. Remember when there were three locations at Tillicum Mall, and those two a block apart on Government? Sears may have a similar issue, as it owns both Sears and KMart stores, but probably not to the degree that Starbucks does.

That was a pretty sound strategy for Starbucks, mind you. The saturated the market to the point where it was overkill, but they created a lot of brand loyalty as a result. Remember when there was a Starbucks at the P.L. James building on Government at View? Just a glance from the one on Government at Yates, both of which were one block from the Starbucks in Chapters, and the Starbucks at the Bay Centre. And then they opened yet another one further down Government at Fisgard.

Starbucks destroyed any competition in many [the majority?] of their markets, especially in the USA.

And today:

Toys "R" Us is closing its doors...The company was taken over by private equity giants KKR, Bain Capital and real estate investment company Vornado in 2005. Together they paid $6.6 billion, but saddled the company with $5.3 billion in debt...

It does not look like the large yellow crane is at Mayfair.
