We have never had worse roads than we do now, in the CoV.

It has nothing to do with climate change, and just a lack of investment over the last 20 years.

Yeah ok, nothing to do with this though...  It's the future and ongoing costs of capital programs that are being discussed..  The are just over 3% of the 12.77%...

It's mismanagement, hiding behind climate change, maybe? The costs are soaring, because we've delayed maintenance over decades. The longer you leave critical infrastructure maintenance, the more costlier and complex the repairs are.

I get that we like to wait to replace underground utilities when we repave roads but that has created a calamitous result.

Oh for sure over the years there needed to be more capital work done for sure.  Back in the day most municipalities tried to keep taxes down.  Most all are paying for that now...  It's a drag but eventually it has had to happen.

Municipalities over-spent, over-extended themselves, and now they're in financial duress, having to sell 12% tax increases.

Can your office not find a way to save 1% this year, in costs?

1% is a lot to ask these days, but I'm working on it...  Parking Services is right now around 8% of the revenue.

Sure I guess...  I think there is much more value when I attend those but everything can be cut...

Is there a way to quantify that value?

Not that might work for you.  If we look at increased revenues over the years (not related to rates), then yeah that would be far more revenue than the expense.

Mike wants you to fire yourself :D

He should run for Council maybe...

Are they though? I'm sure they are saying supply chain delays/issues are causing costs to increase. I won't even argue that.

Are they saying the supply chain issues are primarily caused by climate change? Really? I think they are far more caused by geo-political issues and events like Covid. I suspect most aren't saying why the supply chains are affected at all. It's just the CoV grabbing at straws that are popular to CoV council voting base.

Are construction costs up for developers and other non-city projects or are costs the same?

Thank god governments and the internet weren't around when the last ice age hit.

Could you imagine the tax increases that would have cost?

Mayor Ken Sim touted the approval Tuesday of a 3.9 per cent property tax hike as “good news” after he and his ABC Vancouver colleagues were unanimous in their support for balancing the city’s $2.36-billion operating budget.

The increase — with one per cent of the 3.9 per cent to cover infrastructure costs — is much lower than the 7.28 per cent and 10.7 per cent hikes in the first two years of Sim’s administration.

Relatively 3.9% looks good. It’s still a little bit too high though.
