Miracle on Broad Street

From 6am to 6pm on Friday, December 13, 2013, the on-air hosts of CFAX 1070 will bring you updates on Santas Anonymous, introduce some of our fantastic supporters and past recipients, and invite the Greater Victoria community to lend a helping hand. Staff from CFAX, Kool FM, and CTV will be on the phones to take your pledges, and every dollar raised will go toward purchasing food for families in need.

Huh, CFAX has gone to Canadian Press hourly news reports as of 3pm, like they use overnight.  I guess screw local news after 3pm on Christmas.  There must be none.

Will you eat haggis today in honour of Robbie Burns Day?

Or are you like me and eat it every day?

A 19 year old girl suffered a serious leg injury after falling from the goldstream train tressell this evening.

The young girl was swinging from a rope swing that was attached beneath the tressel, when she fell approximately 80 feet.

Glen Cooper, Lieutenant for Langford Fire and Rescue, says they were dispatched around 6pm and were able to locate and rescue the young girl.

She was transported to a local area hospital in stable condition with what is believed to be a broken leg.

Cooper added that they will be removing the rope swing as it is a hazard to the public.

Kids should not write news copy.  We have two different spellings of trestle in the same article, Goldstream with no capitalization, and since when is a 19-year-old a "girl" or a "young girl"?  WOMAN is the correct term.

i've noticed that when a younger person (such as a 19 year old) is a victim of something, they're referred to as a boy or girl.  but if that same person is charged with something illegal, they are referred to as a man or woman.  not all the time, depends on the media outlet, but it's not uncommon.

Ya, I see that too.  But it's pretty inexcusable calling a 19-year-old a "young girl" in any case.

What a lot of "Reefer Madness" BS.

Hearing Frank's thunderous voice railing against the horrors of the illegal drug marijuana was like going back in time 60 years. Yeah, alcohol is a lot safer than THC, Frank. Sure.

Today's news girl did a fabulous job of butchering lots of sports names.  Ryan Smyth and Miguel Ángel Jiménez she really killed today.

Is it pronounced Smyth or Smyth? Or was it Ryan that was the issue...

Sometimes I wonder why cfax bothers with a website, it's just brutal.

Matt.
