The Mexican restaurant occupying the former Rathskeller space in Harris Green is now open for business...
Rathskeller did a good pretzel; will they have a Vallarta pretzel?

What's a Vallarta pretzel?
It's like a New York pretzel only made entirely out of a tortilla and soaked in tequila.

What's a Victoria pretzel?
It's like a New York pretzel, only much, much, much smaller and the salt crystals on the outside are of the cheapest, most ordinary variety available (and often resemble reddish-brown brick). Most importantly is it nothing like the Vancouver pretzel.
On the plus side, it doesn't block anyone's view of the Sooke Hills when you eat it.

What's a You pretzel?

Too twisted and unpalatable for human consumption.

1. Now I want a pretzel.
2. That is obviously the complete bike lane map for downtown.

Squid tentacle(not octopus), stuffed with raspberries, dotted with chicago mix, smothered with maple syrup, salt, little bit of lime squeezed on top, “trade secrets”, blended.

A Lebanese/Mediterranean place called Café Layla has signage up to say it's opening soon at 1008 Langley St. It's an awkward space under that little parking garage at the corner of Langley and Broughton where Side Dish Persian restaurant used to be. Not a great spot for foot traffic, but I'd love to finally be able to get some quality shawarma downtown.

You know I'll be trying this out:
Superbaba Sampler
hummus, baba ganoush, labneh, all the pickles, pita bread, and za'atar pita chips
$15
Perhaps followed by this:
Apple Pie Baklava
a flaky pastry with walnuts, apples, cinnamon, and a floral syrup glaze
$2.50
Edit: all prices include tax

I didn't know there is such a demand for middle eastern food in Victoria.
Yalla
Anar
Tulip Cafe
Efes
Cafe Layla
a few others I can't remember
I guess middle eastern is the new sushi.

^ Superbaba as well, who are opening for the first time at 11am today for lunch. Not sure if they'll be open for dinner, but sounds like they're almost ready for a full launch.
