Yep, wages, benefits, and menu prices are all going up.

And for whatever reason, wages are always "sticky".  They never come back down even when the labour force is plentiful.

Why is Cascadia Bakery closing? I was surprised to see the sign up that they will close September 15th. I probably only spent 20 or 30 bucks a month there but the granola and breakfast options were great and I'm sad to see them closing.

^ Very sad. I'll need to find a new go-to bakery in the downtown area...

...anyways, Good Butcher's tally is now up to $38k. I have a feeling investments have petered out and may not reach the minimum $50k threshold to release the funds.

Very Good Butcher's kickstarter has achieved and surpassed their $50k goal... currently sitting at $53k with 4 days to go!

Good for them.  :)

Edit: or perhaps I should say Very Good for them.

Just saw that Haultain Fish and Chips is for sale for around $200,000. Been in business for around 90 years with just two operators. Interesting to see who takes on this classic Victoria institution.

A couple of Chinese restaurants have recently closed.

* Sun Wah (corner of Cook and Pandora) has closed and is apparently being renovated into something else.

* Raymond's (on Blanshard) has closed and will be turned into the Royal India restaurant.

It's pretty low for a turn-key profitable(?) restaurant of any type.

There could be talk of a redevelopment of the building within a medium-range timeframe

What sort of fad is Avalon? Unless restaurants with few customers is now the "in thing".

I agree with Mike. The real future in this space is redevelopment of the entire building. A 2-storey structure in this location won't be around too much longer.

Yeah, I realize that. VV really needs a sarcasm font.
