This will be the fourth hotel, not the third, technically. There’s the AirBnB-like hotel further east on Goldstream, past Veterans.
Know it all.

The statement in the June 19 edition that the ban on short-term rentals has made it difficult for sporting events in Victoria is wrong.
The shortage of suitable accommodation for sports teams is a result of the B.C. government purchasing hundreds and hundreds of hotel rooms in Victoria for the homeless.
These moderately priced hotels were well within the budget of the teams and families wishing to come to the city.
They were not renting overpriced short-term rentals.

Unionized workers at Hotel Grand Pacific have voted 92 per cent in favour of strike action after negotiations with their employer stalled in May.
No date of a potential action by members of Unifor Local 14 has been set. The 160 members work in housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, reservations, the Fathom restaurant, the Courtyard Café and the banquets department.
In a statement this week, Unifor called for “fair wages that reflect the cost of living in the community where they work.”

B.C. man who moved to Sask. for cheap housing finds purpose in restoring historic hotel
The Grand Hotel has sat vacant in Shaunavon, Sask. since 1981
Kent Karemaker traded in his tiny condo on the West Coast for a 36-room vacant hotel, with a leaky roof, in rural Saskatchewan — a move he believes may have saved his life.
The 44-year-old former government worker bought the dilapidated Grand Hotel in Shaunavon, which is about 280 kilometres southwest of Regina and has about 1,700 residents. He has ambitious plans to restore it.
"I knew this project was so huge and monumental that it would take me a long time to do it, and that's a good thing," Karemaker said, while giving CBC News a tour.
'What is my purpose?'
Before the pandemic, Karemaker was living in a 400-square-foot condo in Victoria, writing press releases for the government and trying to manage his depression and anxiety.
Then, as COVID-19 turned the world upside down, his mental health deteriorated. He says as a single, gay man with no children and a job he didn't love, he knew he needed an inspirational change in his life.
"Every day I found myself asking the question, 'Why am I here? What is my purpose?'"

This wasn’t a five-star summer at Rosario, the storied resort on Orcas Island that changed hands in April.
Parts of the 84-acre property remain closed, including the elegant Robert Moran mansion, completed by the former Seattle mayor in 1909.
Rooms can be booked but some guests have left scathing reviews about scarce staff, scant amenities (no pools, spa or dining room) and concierge services run by a third-party call center that seemed “completely unfamiliar with the property,” as one reviewer put it.
Locals are irked that Rosario’s new owner, Empower Investing, which paid $6.65 million for the main part of the property in April, hired only a few of the resort’s former staff and has been heavily pitching the property to investors.
Empower founder Chris Robison blames the rough start partly on the state of the aging property. In interviews last month, the 39-year-old island resident said he would be buying the remainder of the resort with plans to refurbish and reopen the property in stages under its new name, Rosario Village. He hopes locals and would-be guests can “be patient with us” in the meantime.

Taylor Swift fan Kelly Hall was elated when she beat the odds and was allocated three coveted tickets for The Eras Tour in Vancouver.
Then she started looking for a hotel.
Hall, who lives in Oshawa, Ont., planned to fly to Vancouver with her husband and a friend for the weekend of the Dec. 8 show, but the cheapest room was about $1,200 a night.
"We decided that if this weekend alone — just three nights — is going to cost us three to five grand in accommodation, it just wasn't worth it for us," said Hall, who is a financial adviser.
So, they did the once-unthinkable: "We decided to sell the tickets."

Ah, but how much did you sell the tickets for? Face value? Or 10x the original price?
Ticket resale site StubHub lists single tickets to the show from about $3,000.
