Their content is only blocked in Canada, so presumably 10-15% of their followers are still able to see their content.

Not that I noticed. I’m surprised 10-15% of their viewers are outside of Canada, and also assume they are simply using software to cross post across all platforms. CBC posts almost nothing.

I just started watching their 6pm newscast, for local stories it's pretty decent and then there's the "upside."

"and then there's the "upside."
I've always liked Ed Bain, but this segment is kind of annoying.

And a very affordable one at that. Great way for local businesses to get the word out about who they are and what they do.

What it failed to mention was the international students and immigration levels pre-covid. What was it before we started accepting a million immigrant a year, causing the housing crisis we live in? How did universities survived before covid? Was there really 800,000 international students back then?
I'm pretty sure even with the immigration and international students cuts, their numbers are still higher now than before covid.
So, are universities really struggling, or only whining because they'll now make less profit than last year, but still more than before covid?

We have an army of Woke Professor that need the foreign students to keep up their life styles. I would not lose any sleep if they became unemployed.

First tier schools like UBC and UVic are not struggling, they just have to rejig their budgets, and temper their spending expectations. They’ll be fine.

School in general. It's too bad most kids have a tough time with self motivation and we parents need to work to survive.

Depends what you define as “university.” There are many third tier schools that are struggling, because their business was primarily reliant on international students. They were created for that market, specifically.

Depends on how you define struggling but UBC has about 1/3rd of its student population as international students and UVIC is pushing 20%. Given that international students pay 5-6X the tuition of a local student that will be a big hit to budgets.

Fees
For the 2023-2024 calendar year, tuition is expected to be about $30,500 (domestic students) and $40,000 (international students). For current and up-to-date tuition and fees, please see the UVic Academic Calendar.

What are you talking about? UBC is crazy but UVic is not much difference.

Wrong. You picked a specialized Masters degree program there, thats a very small cohort.

The actual difference in ECE/CompSci is ~8700 CAD for domestic and ~37000 CAD for international for 2 semesters.
The calculator is here: https://www.uvic.ca/...costs/index.php

Why would someone pay $37,000 CAD to go to UVIC I wonder?
