The Marvels will likely break an unfortunate record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie, which is the third installment in Phase 5 of the MCU, is a sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel, which introduced Brie Larson's superpowered former fighter pilot to the franchise.

The storyline sees Captain Marvel's powers becoming entangled with two others, leading her to team up with astronaut Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Avengers fangirl Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), who developed powers of their own over the course of the Disney+ shows WandaVision and Ms. Marvel.

Per Deadline, The Marvels box office is only tracking to gross a domestic opening weekend total between $47 and $52 million. This would make it the worst opening ever for a movie in the MCU, with the previous movie to hold that title being 2008's The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton, which is widely considered to be an early misfire for the franchise and had an opening gross of $55.4 million.

Ridley Scott told people who weren’t liking his film to STFU.

Classic.

One review said the film is disjointed, having been edited down from 5 hours to nearly 3 hours. Apparently the full directors cut will come out on Apple+ eventually. Maybe it's better with all the scenes (tho somehow I doubt it).

A movie about an incel/cuckold napoleon doesn't seem appealing.

Both those things are super trendy right now.

I mentioned this one before, the latest trailer to Godzilla Minus One looks great.

https://www.youtube....h?v=VvSrHIX5a-0

I'll be looking forward to it's release (hopefully subtitled) in North America Dec1st.

It's been out in Japan since early November.

It's not a great indicator, but it has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.I'm hopeful at least.

This film trailer caught my eye.

'She Came To Me' had a limited release in October (I completely missed it).

Stars Peter Dinklage and Anne Hathaway.

I'm hoping to catch it on Netflix or maybe at the Vic Theatre or Cinecenta.

I have hopes for this one.

Some films are just better when scenes that were removed are put back, like Justice League or Gettysburg.

So, more Marvel? Not sure how you turn around a movie franchise without making more movies.

Make better ones.

Their next one will do very, very well: Deadpool 3.

Was that a joke based on them identifying too many sequels as the problem? 🤔

Maybe the comic book movie trend should die already. I’m ready for a new kind of action movie… never was big into comics but I was up for the ride. Now they all seem boring.

No joke, I would not be surprised if Deadpool 3 exceeds 1b which is a very high stretch goal for a R rated movie.

For the rest, in the past couple of years Marvel movies have been okay at best. They set the bar so high with the first 3 seasons, so that's part of the problem, but the writing, acting, and quality has diminished. Doing movies on characters that people are less interested in doesn't help.

The new Bradley Cooper movie is getting good reviews. I’m not sure I find the subject compelling.

But I do like Cooper.

He has charisma, that’s for sure.

Not so sure he needed the prosthetic Jew nose for the role, though. Seems a bit weird. https://www.nytimes....-bernstein.html

Ya there was the usual complaints.

Carey Mulligan gets accolades too, I’m not sure why she always does. She’s competent but I’m never blown away by her work.

Usual?

When’s the last time a gentile actor used a fake big nose to portray a Jew on screen?

I can’t think of another example. But there are plenty of times gentile actors playing Jews didn’t need a fake Jew nose (Oppenheimer most recently).

Just seems weird and unnecessary 🤷‍♂️

Carey mulligan always seems half asleep to me. She is cute though.

The movie spans a long time frame and he gets many makeovers to age him along. What’s wrong with making him look like Bernstein if it can be done with makeup and effects? Whether it be weight, hair colour and style, or nose?
