I saw THX 1138 the other night for the first time. Wow. Crazy I never got around to it before. Great movie really. Perhaps better to have waited since it’s much closer to reality now…
Arty sci-fi doing a lot with little. Lucas did better with a limited budget.

I’m officially over Jerry Seinfeld. Don’t get me wrong - I’ll always love the sitcom and it’s the best ever made.

But it’s increasingly clear that Larry David was the genius there.

Bee movie was a dumb concept and wasn’t funny. But Jerry insisted it was comedy, so we kinda went along with it.

Comedians in cars getting coffee is at best a cute idea. But it’s not funny. Jerry is kind of a jerk, very self aggrandizing, not kind, and not very funny.

The pop tart movie seals the deal. Stupid concept. Unfunny execution. Just a really dumb idea, but he’s too rich and out of touch and in love with himself to see it.

Notice how Larry David didn’t touch any of these projects with a 10 foot pole (except his (once?) appearance on cars/coffee).

Jerry Seinfeld stinks.

I'll add that Seinfeld the TV series is the most overrated sitcom of all time.

Had its moments, but they were rare, IMO. I enjoyed Friends, HIMYM, and TBBT much more. We need a new one, Young Sheldon is a different breed...

I’ve heard of people (young, uninformed) preferring Friends to Seinfeld.

But never thought I’d hear someone compare How I met your mother to Seinfeld.

In the parlance of the big lebowksi… you’re out of your element lanforod.

Edit: oh gross, just realized TBBT stands for the Big Bang theory. I just threw up in my mouth 🤢

A coworker suggested The Outsider, a 10 part series on HBO/Crave, based on the recent Stephen King novel. Ben Mendelsohn, Jason Bateman feature. Good show, great cast.

thx 1138 is a classic. francis ford coppola challenged lucas to make something more accessible next which led to american graffiti, then i suppose lucas put them together for star wars.

I should watch American Graffiti again. See if it holds up. I feel Empire Strikes Back was his last good movie. THX was very good. Surprised me. Perhaps it's better now as the content is more relevant and the minimalism is more contrasting to the maximal nature of movies now.

The sound was a big part of THX. I recognized the influence on Blade Runner immediately.

I never saw the first one, so I can't imagine wanting to watch a sequel.
