I guess what I mean is, if I run that car at that curb in a variety of different ways, the likely result most times is I drive up onto the curb. I think I'd have to experiment a whole bunch to get it to flip like I'm seeing there.

Note the garbage can laying down next to the tree.
I'm guessing the car was Northbound, crossed the center, jumped the curb, hit the garbage can and rolled clockwise.
The can is probably what rolled the car.

It honestly doesn't take much to flip a car even at incredibly slow speeds as this lady found out.

^ Ya, I guess so, when you hit a wall, or that concrete garbage can, car will sure go up it.

You live 86 long years then get killed by an out-of-control car, that strikes you in a super-suburban area, as you wait/walk for a bus on quiet Sunday afternoon. Life's crazy.
Investigators determined that a car driven by a 43-year-old Saanich woman suddenly crossed the centre line, struck a curb, tree, cement garbage recepticle and the elderly woman who was walking on the sidewalk.

I know. We were just driving through that neighbourhood a few hours before that accident going to some garage sales. It's real quiet--hardly a car in sight. I really hope this is not one of those cases that fades away and we never learn the story. I want to know the cause.

Anyway you look at it, surely there should be charges in this case.
Either the driver was intoxicated, not paying attention or did it on purpose. In any case it was probably criminally negligent.

I'm almost sure that steering systems are designed such that even the most serious breakdown results in the vehicle moving straight forward.

If you lose a tie-rod, you've lost the bit that keeps the wheel straight.

I'm not sure that's true. Centrifugal force keeps the wheel straight as long as it's turning.

^And the cops said they're considering medical problems as a possibility as well. We'll know soon so don't take out the pitchforks and torches just yet.
