I love it. Likely wouldn't be offered in Canada. What does stop Canadians from having a US phone carrier? Like can we just walk over to Port Angeles and sign up?

You guessed wrong. Rogers and Starlink have partnered up. https://www.cbc.ca/n...nings-1.6823409

Oh gawwwwwd.

Here I was hoping Starlink cell services (satellite phone services) would be available independent of Canada's telecoms  :badpc:

Would Starlink work with any phone, or would it have to be a nexgen phone capable of using the satellite?

I assume anything with wifi capability would link with a starlink.

4g/5g capability, not WiFi.

This means pretty much any modern smartphone. If its less than 5 years old, it'll likely work. As I understand it, basically, SpaceX is putting cell towers in space. This requires getting Starlink v2 full size satellites up using Starship, which of course, needs work still. They have launched mini versions of the v2 satellite, but I'm not sure if those are capable of 4g/5g connections to cell phones.

So once up and running, will this compete with cell carriers?

I doubt it. It'll need to be a coordination with local carriers, like what they are doing with Rogers. It's unlikely they can get much signal through buildings and major geographic features. You'll need line of sight. Weather will interfere too, I'm sure.

How has your experience been with Shaw resellers like Juce? My home Shaw contract was up for renewal, and some apples to apples comparisons showed me that Shaw was very competitively priced. I thought these resellers were cheaper?

I think what they have are some cheap plans, but also very slow speeds.

Signed up for another two years with Shaw. Whenever we’ve needed service they have been fabulous.

Bell is teaming up with Air Canada to offer free messaging for all Aeroplan members worldwide on Wi-Fi-equipped airplanes, the companies announced on Wednesday.

SpaceX is continuing to make it easier for customers to purchase Starlink hardware, adding their satellite internet system to Best Buy stores in the US. The addition of Starlink to Best Buy comes just a few weeks after the hardware appeared at Home Depot.

According to the Best Buy website, SpaceX is offering both the standard Starlink kit and the High Performance kit. Both kits are available for the same price as on the official Starlink website at $599 and $2,5000 respectively. (via PCMag) Much like with the Home Depot offering, the Starlink kits can be shipped to your address, or you can opt to pick up your hardware at a physical Best Buy location. This could mean the hardware will also be available on store shelves for walk-in customers, but we have yet to see any reports of this.

Would love to go with Juce but they seem too mysterious, little information on the ownership of the company that I can find… I suppose I could phone and ask

I’m currently simultaneously streaming high quality video on six different devices, audio on a seventh and posting on an eighth. this part of my tank only gets 35 Mbps, works fine

Most providers gimmicks is to convince you that you need more speed than you actually do

Myself and some friends have been using lightspeed.ca for years now.  30Mbps has been fine and can't be beaten for price at $33/month

Crazy.

It was inevitable. I just didn’t think that global connectivity would come this fast.

What’s everyone paying for internet these days?

Mum’s service is $119 for Rogers/Shaw 600. It went up from $99 this month.

$30/mo. including tax.  I share it with a neighbour, not sure what package (we) have!  But it seems speedy!
