No certainly not but over a million per officer is spent on supporting them in their work? Really?

If we bill the CRD, won’t the CRD bill us?

It costs $10,000 to kill a deer in clown world. This sounds cheap!

800 mil for 600 cops? That’s a lot of overhead!

No kidding. Some quick digging into Halifax tells me:

Budget about $96m.

About 550 cops and 820 FTEs total.

They have some RCMP policing for rural areas at $33m. Not sure how many additional cops for that but its 188 FTEs. 30% additional is federal funded.

Based on that, they have likely more police overall than 600 for their region (and a bit higher population), but an annual spend of effectively about $140m if including the RCMP 30% subsidy.

The CoV/Esquimalt police budget alone is far too high based on that.

Halifax constable salaries:
" The annual constable base salary ranges from $67,133.28 to $111,888.79 (as of October 1, 2023)."

VicPD starts at 77k.

A California police department said it will need a new way to disguise the faces of suspects in photos posted to social media after Lego asked the department to stop using its intellectual property.

The Murrieta Police Department has been using various images -- including emoji faces and characters from The GrinchShrek and Barbie -- to cover the faces of suspects in mug shots and other photos posted to social media for a couple of years, and this year California adopted a statewide law prohibiting police from sharing photos of suspects in non-violent crimes.

New, improved stun gun is accepted for police use in B.C., province says

Mar 25, 2024

VICTORIA — British Columbia has approved the use of an updated Taser weapon for officers around the province to use as a less-lethal weapon during police confrontations.

taser.jpg

A statement from the Ministry of Public Safety says the Taser 7 offers the ability to discharge a second shot without reloading a new cartridge and its short-distance shooting range option, among other “enhancements.”

The ministry says the new Taser was approved by the director of police services after getting advice from a panel that includes police, the Independent Investigations Office and the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society.

It says a nine-month field trial last year involved officers from the Vancouver, Victoria and Port Moody police departments and found that the model was “effective, and no serious injuries or deaths among subjects, officers or bystanders were reported.”

The government says the weapon is already authorized for use in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Better than hanging around a “marked trail” after midnight waiting to see what happens next. The cops would know how to reach him/her if they need to.

In 24 hours the cops couldn’t find a dead body just off a trail as described by an eye witness? Yikes.

Police secure explosive material

West Shore

2024-04-06

File # 2024-6419

On April 6 at approximately 1:45 p.m., West Shore RCMP received a call from a complainant who advised that they located explosive material in their residence.

The complainant placed the explosive material in their vehicle and advised they were driving to the West Shore detachment. As this was dangerous, police directed the complainant to stop their vehicle, exit and wait for Police to attend their location while they waited a safe distance away. However, the complainant had already exited their vehicle and left the explosive material in the Veterans Memorial Park.

Police immediately attended the park located on the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Goldstream Ave in Langford and secured the area. There is no risk to public safety as the area is secured. Police are currently at this location, and we ask that no public attend the park. The Explosive Disposal Unit has been called and will attend the park to ensure the explosive material is handled and disposed of in a safe manner.
