...Hollywood, as with everything it portrays regarding firearms, is out to lunch.

Except for Deadpool right? He could have done all that he did with 12 rounds.

No word on which stores will be axed, but Pier 1 has announced the closure of up to 450 of its 942 North American stores. Distribution centres and the Texas head office will also face cuts as the company struggles to attract shoppers to their stores.

The Pier One store across from Mayfair is in the process of closing now.

It's no wonder people don't want to go to their stores...I swear you get covered in glitter the moment you walk into that place.

Pretty bummed about Island Outfitter's; until they get sorted, for the hard core fisherman Robinson's Sporting Goods downtown is excellent for fly fishing gear in particular, also Peetz has a solid selection of freshwater in addition to their staple salt chuck gear. For the true 'marine-head' Trotac Marine is your play. Hope Ward and his gang get back into business soon :(

Just when you thought it was gone.... Forever 21 to return to Canada (sort of) through partnership with online retail platform Global-e. The partnership will see Forever 21's product line sold internationally, with the brand able to set market-specific prices and promotions.

Fuzzy Wuzzy is reopening under new ownership in an alternate location.

and into fuzzy wuzzy space is max furniture.

When Max Furniture moves from its current location on Bridge Street to its new home at 3460 Quadra Street, its floor space will triple to 9,000 square feet.

“We’ll have more room to showcase all of our lines and give the customer a better hands-on shopping experience,” says Rahim Khudabux, co-owner and general manager. “People love to touch something before they buy it, or have the opportunity to sit on a new chair.”

Designer Amy McGeachy will be operating an outlet of her design shop in the new space, where she can meet with her own clients, as well as collaborating with Max Furniture and its customers.

Customers at Hillside Shopping Centre will no longer be able to bring their furry, four-legged friends to the mall with them.

As of this March, dogs will not be allowed to accompany their owners while they shop.

“We are finding that our doggie visitors are having difficulty differentiating between inside and outside behaviours,” a notice on the mall’s website says. “We thank those dog owners that adhered to our policies but unfortunately many dog owners did not.”

What a shame. I rather liked seeing the 4-legged shoppers at Hillside.

It’s getting ridiculously out of hand. People now bring their dogs everywhere, into any business they want, and are shocked when staff ask them to leave. We’ve also seen an explosion in pet ownership and with that come many owners who are unable or unwilling to train their dogs properly.

That being said I was at a local mall yesterday and saw a group training puppies as service dogs. It was cute, but the dogs were properly restrained and individuals were reminded not to pet or interact with them physically.

Know it all.

pet ownership is not exploding. it might be up 10% over the last 10 or 15 years.

but the amount of people that take them everywhere is definitely way up.

In 2016 Stascan said there were 7.6 million dogs in the country. By 2018 there were 8.2 million. That’s ten per cent every 3-4 years.

Growing up it was very, very rare for a family to have a dog. Now a dog is very common among average family households (roughly 1/3 have a dog now). Even in apartments I’ve never seen so much dog ownership.

Meanwhile a 24 hour emergency pet hospital - not just a clinic but a hospital - is under construction in Saanich.

it's tempered though by the fact cat ownership is stagnant.  turtles are down.  rabbits way down.  guinea pigs and gerbils and mice also off.
