I was surprised to see that the 7-11 at Government and Broad is now closed.

I'm more surprised to see any retail operations still open in downtown Victoria.

It was busy. And rife with shoplifting and general disorder. Who would want to work there?

I’m not sure that “Government and Broad” makes sense though.

Broughton maybe.

No big deal. Seven of one, eleven of another.

It was nice to have it there, knowing you could duck in 24 hours a day when something shifty was happening on the street.

The Bay and Blanshard location has also closed.

You were hanging around that intersection so frequently that you needed to be aware of escape routes and places of refuge at all hours of the day or night?

Yeah! Sometimes being the only pedestrian heading for the first Harbour air departure, or going home from a restaurant late at night. It was nice to have the 7/11 there. I’d pop in somewhat regularly.

Even for a large chain like 7/11, there is only so much theft and mayhem one can absorb.

I am having a hard time trying to figure out what CoV staff and council want with the downtown. By re-routing events and tourism off of Government street they seem intent on killing off the retail and restaurant traffic there but what do they want to replace it with?

Some mythical version of 19th century Europe?

There were some people lining up along Government Street on Saturday, only to realize the parade had shifted to Douglas Street.

I too thought it went down Government Still. When did it shift over?

After millions of dollars of taxpayer money was spent making government street more people friendly.

Aha! Thank you.

Before, Government would close and the impact on traffic wasn't all that bad. But when police closed down Douglas on a Saturday at 5PM, mayhem ensued. Like straight up craziness.

Better question is why did it shift over? One would have thought that Gcvernment St with its festive lights would have had a much better ambience?

Blanshard was mess..  I walked to the hockey game at 6 and it was just about gridlock.  Downtown was very busy on Saturday even without that 7-11...  To me Douglas might not be the best spot for a parade on a Saturday night.  Sunday morning, sure....

Sold-out hockey game, the parade, Boney M, and at least one other concert, all within a short period of time of each other. It was busy when they shut down Douglas.

Yes exactly...  Not a fan of parades :)

My bad. I forgot you like to reserve the entire plane when you travel.

...going home from a restaurant late at night...

My bad. I forgot your final course is typically served between 2am and 4am.
