Dont want to park in a parkade these days since more than a couple of my neighbours had their cars broken into in parkades. Before you tell me how safe it usually is the fact of the matter is that I dont want to have my linch or dinner disturbed by wondering if my car is okay. Three of my imediate neighbours had their cars broken into, the BandB has had a number of its visitors with cars broken into when they go downtown, She is now recommending restaurants to her guests that are not downtown.
I park in the parkade every day for over a decade: my car has never been broken into. Though, I don’t leave valuables in it. Maybe try that. Cars get broken into in saanich and oak bay too

This is really the key to it all... So many people use their vehicle as storage.. The stories I have heard when people call in, leaving lap top, cell phone, purses and luggage. It's a tough one...
Cars also get broken on streets in Victoria, the key factor is stuff in the vehicle. Right now parkades have security and Parking Ambassadors circulating, they are large facilities and all it takes is for two people with a communication device that is better than a smoke signal to know when it's safe. I have tried for likely 10 years for motion activated cameras, which do need to be monitored, but this way security can be dispatched to a location.

I had my license plate stolen in the Broughton St. parkade about five years ago. I was parked quite close to the little kiosk too. I miss being able to pay on the way out, which is why I rarely go downtown.

Those one hour free spots down low are fabulous, I use them as often as I can.
I still love downtown and shop downtown as often as possible.

The parking app is easy: I like being able to end my parking and not have to pay for the unused time or if I run a little later, I can add time without going to the machine.

I don't have a smart phone and if I get one I won't have data. Once you're on a pension, these costs add up. I really have no need for a smart phone. I like the system in parking garages in France that we used several years ago. You get your ticket on the way in with the time stamped. When you leave, you put your ticket into a machine and pay what you owe before going to your car. You keep the ticket and insert it in the gate thing on the way out, which then raises.

It's a great benefit, just increases line-ups, especially at Broughton when a show let's out, like long line-ups. Common reports of 10-25 minute lineups leaving the facility most days after work. Gateless among other benefits, has alleviated this. What we lost is everyone was charged per15 minute interval and first hour free. Just more pros than cons here. There are 1 hour free spaces for you to utilize to go to the library or other short trips.

The Douglas Street stretch between Pandora Avenue and Fort Street, arguably the downtown’s commercial high street, has multiple properties with smashed-in windows, which include the former dollar store adjacent to the Rialto Hotel at Pandora Avenue, the Circle K at Yates Street, the Shoppers Drug Mart at View Street, Winners between View and Fort streets, and most recently, the newly vacated 7-Eleven at Johnson Street (pictured). Bus stops along this stretch have also been targeted by vandals, with smashed panes and/or damaged stops.
