I've updated the flickr album with today's pics and many more. As I didn't move the camera during actual lifts this time around, viewing today's action as a slideshow in flickr is more movie-like.

The bridge is up again, time to say goodbye to the Dynamic Beast - until February.
Nicely executed operation. It must have taken enormous planning.
Helps that the weather was good - for December!

Great pics, Gary, from a primo viewpoint! I have enjoyed ghosting along in this forum and watching the project unfold from your perspective.
I was a bit lower to the water for today's show. The execution was impressive.

God, the old bridge is sure going along with it, and being good, functioning correctly, considering it's looking at its replacement every day. That would normally be hard on morale.

Here are two photos showing where the crane lowered the ring onto the temporary falsework.
This apparatus allows the engineers to align the ring with the clockwork gears already in place.
You can see the rollers and gears for the north ring below the falsework in the Before photo.

...we needed a new bridge because the old one was too tall.
Dude, I was saying that right off the bat. Opening up the view, blah blah blah. I'm sure I made a joke many years ago about how the height of the bridge when raised probably sealed its fate.
So is it just me or does it not look as disappointingly blocky as the various pieces suggested when they arrived? That's a pleasant surprise.

I know...I share your pain. This bridge might not raise at all which will satisfy the float plane pilots.

Meanwhile...back at the north side of the pier, what about the fendering?
Will there be a few bumpers down low, or will there be something top-shelf to protect the overhanging pathway from errant barges.
I'm sure they are scratching something up, but will it be the ANSWER?

It’s hard to believe that darned crane can lift the entire span. I wonder how many lift points there will be.
If the Dynamic Beast can't do it then we'll just have to bring in the BIGGER guns, the biggest in fact - the Saipem 7000. With dual 7,000 ton cranes this thing could lift and place the new deck AND remove the entire old blue bridge in one lift, without ever taking their engines out of idle

Anyone know what the deal is with the exposed rings of the new bridge?
Has the exposed element been simplified, removed from public access, or what's changed, exactly?
I know we spoke at length about the vulnerability of the original design.
The curve to the concrete wall is in the original design, so I suppose down the road and under the bridge some future politician....blah. blah, blah.
