Oilers have sent the SCF back to Florida tied 3-3. Tthey will have an opportunity as a result to do something not seen in the NHL since the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs - come back from a 3-0 deficit in the final which would be pretty special to witness regardless whether you want Edmonton to with the cup. And as a committed Leafs hater since the age of 6 I must admit I wouldn't mind it at all if they were forced to share that accomplishment with another team just so we wouldn't have to hear it trotted out every year how the Leafs were the last team to blah blah blah, lol.

Shouldn’t they be the Leaves? I bet I’m the 29 millionth person to ask that question.
The team was named by owner Conn Smythe after the Canadian soldiers in WWI who wore a Maple Leaf badge. The question as to why Leafs and not Leaves has been asked so many times the chairman of the U of T Linguistics department waded into the debate in 2017 responding to that very question from the Washington Post:
“Your conundrum about the pluralization of the Maple Leafs may be less interesting than you were hoping for. It follows the simple rule that nouns used as proper nouns take regular (productive) plurals even if their common noun counterparts have irregular plurals.”
To unpack that response the logic basically is that proper nouns take regular plurals, ergo more than one Maple Leaf badge would be referred to as Maple Leafs. By the same token, two Maple Leaf players are referred to as Maple Leafs, not Maple Leaves.

Oh deer. Now I’m even more confused.
It's not that hard. Proper nouns you do not change them up for your convenience.
If you have two children named Cactus, you don't say, "honey, can you pick up the Cacti after school today"? You ask her to pick up both Cactus boys.

^ Precisely. Makes perfect sense if you stop to think about it for a minute.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to become just the second NHL team to rally from a 3-0 series deficit to win the Stanley Cup when they take on the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final on Monday. Edmonton is looking to join the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, who trailed 3-0 before defeating the Detroit Red Wings in seven games. The Oilers (49-27-6), who have outscored Florida 18-5 over the past three games, are looking to win their first Stanley Cup since the 1989-1990 season. The Panthers (52-24-6), who lost in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights in last year's Stanley Cup Final, are looking to win their first-ever title.
Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. ET from Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla. Florida is the -113 favorite (risk $113 to win $100) in the latest Oilers vs. Panthers odds from SportsLine consensus, while the over/under for total goals scored is 5.5. Before making any Panthers vs. Oilers picks, you need to check out the NHL predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

I figured the winner of this series would be the team that ran off three straight wins and it turns out I was right.

Why do people make such a big deal of this? There are only a few Canadian franchises. One of them -- the Jets -- were absent for about as long as they had previously existed. And lest we forget, that redheaded stepchild Canadian franchise called the Nordiques may well have won the cup once or twice had they remained in Quebec City. If so, the championship drought for Canadian teams would be a lot shorter than it currently is. But (spoiler alert) few Canadians would have taken any satisfaction in Quebec City winning, because Quebec City.
I'm as skeptical as anyone about the legitimacy of pro sports but Canadian NHL teams have played in the finals a few times since 2004. The frickin' Oilers have been twice. Meanwhile, Minnesota, Buffalo, Columbus, etc. still never get any favours.
I must be a bad Canadian because I really don't need to see the Edmonton Oilers or Montreal Canadiens win the cup ever again. Literally, if the Oilers franchise goes another few decades without winning they would still have zip to be complaining about.

I can be happy for Roberto Luongo for getting his first Stanley Cup (he's on team management).

Recent moves: Canucks dumped Mikheyev on Chicago (cap hit dump), signed Blueger and Joshua. Assuming Lindholm will walk. Zadorov is a ??? yet. I'm sure they'll try swing big to get Guentzel, maybe a trade to pickup Necas.
