The Vancouver Pettersons flipped that puck to get a solid d-man from Pittsburgh. I like that trade far more.

The Florida Panthers took the Stanley Cup to the White House today to visit recently inaugurated President Donald Trump. The players wore red ties, a look that Trump often goes for himself and one that matches the team’s colours. The president took notice.

“I love all these ties. This is so cute. I walked in and said, ‘I think they like Trump.'”

It’s tradition for the major North American sports league champions to visit the White House. Last year was the Panthers’ first-ever Stanley Cup. They beat the Edmonton Oilers in seven games, although they nearly blew a 3-0 series lead.

NHL exec hopes Canadians avoid 'unfortunate situation' of booing US national anthem ahead of rivalry game

USA and Canada face off at 4 Nations on Saturday night

https://www.foxnews....ad-rivalry-game

I’m almost sure there will be big reactions here.

A match between the United States and Canada descended into chaos on Saturday with three fights breaking out between players in the first nine seconds.

Players exchanged punches at Montreal's Bell Centre during the 4 Nations fixture, which the US won 3-1 with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in attendance.

The game was played against the backdrop of tensions between the neighbouring countries and the pre-game US national anthem was loudly booed by the partisan home crowd.

Booing the US anthem has become a regular occurrence in NHL and NBA games played in Canada.

Don Cherry (I definitely miss him) would accurately describe this as nothing more than a classic game of Canadian hockey.

There's no doubt that this current Canadian message (booing the American anthem) is making big headlines south of the border (front page of CNN and Fox News today), which is not something that's easy to do during a Trump administration.

Frankly, I quite like the vibe that Canadians are currently delivering with gusto.

I'm not a fan of getting kicked in the nuts and taking it.

I like a solid scrap to make sure everybody knows that, win or lose, Canada isn't afraid of a bloody nose every now and then!

The American players initiated all the fights and won the hockey game.

We've only got 2 points in this tournament (so do all the others except USA).

If we do get to the final on Thursday it's going to be something.

Thankfully Sweden lost to Finland to setup a probable rematch in the final.
A good game. Very high level hockey, enjoyed every second except the outcome.

It's a must-win Monday doubleheader for potentially three teams at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

It certainly is for Canada and Finland in the afternoon game at TD Garden (1 p.m. ET; TNT, MAX, truTV, SN, TVAS). If the game between the Canadians and Finns ends in regulation, the winner will advance to play the United States in the championship game at TD Garden on Thursday.

The United States is already guaranteed to finish first in the round-robin portion. It has six points from regulation wins against Finland and Canada.

"I believe that we are ready to play against Team Canada," Finland coach Antti Pennanen said. "It's going to be a big battle for us and it means a lot because we respect Team Canada a lot and the hockey history. So, it's going to be a big thing for us if we can win against that team."

If Canada-Finland does produce a winner in regulation, Sweden will be playing for only pride against the U.S. in the nightcap (8 p.m. ET; TNT, MAX, truTV, SN, TVAS). It will be eliminated if the first game ends in regulation.

Sweden, Finland and Canada each has two points in the tournament standings, but Canada and Finland both won against Sweden so each owns the tiebreaker against the Swedes.

"If it's a game that doesn't mean anything we're still playing the U.S. in Boston," Sweden coach Sam Hallam said. "We know what they want to do in front of their home crowd so we need to be ready for everything."

This thing is a blowout.

Looks like it is winner takes all Thursday.

We win we fend off US invasion. We lose I’m not sure what. Surrender?

Never thought I'd see the day* when political narratives and sports narratives would coincide so neatly like this. Shockingly unexpected, for sure, and especially considering how there isn't a person in the world who would be caring one bit about this stupid tournament otherwise.

ESPN’s coverage of Canada v USA in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) 4 Nations Face-Off international men’s ice hockey tournament was watched by an average of 4.4 million viewers on ABC in the US, peaking at 5.2 million.

So true to form here, interest (and viewership) in Canada was over 10x higher than in the US.

4.4 on ESPN and 10.1 total doesn’t make Canada viewership 10x higher except maybe per capita?

That’ll never change. Hockey plays 4rth fiddle for sports in the US. In Canada it’s by far number 1.

If people wanna watch a showcase, they can go watch Harlem Globetrotters.

To me, All Star exhibitions suck because they don't really showcase team competion. I find them boring and don't watch anymore We don't really need individual competitions to know who the best players in the world are, their seasonal and playoff stats speak for themselves.
