Ahh yes, I forgot about that location. I could only picture dollar stores at Tillicum and Saanich Plaza.

Dollar Ramma staff say they’ve had a huge increase of shoplifting starting 48 hrs after tally ho opened their new and improved air b’n
Seems these shoplifters are well versed in the their rights and the law .
To me what should happen is there are terms and conditions of having a room at Tally Ho and being a law abiding citizen is one.
Break the law and you are out, no warnings, no talking to, you have 1 hour to vacate or staff will put your stuff on the sidewalk

If we only lived in a world where such basic rules were enforced.

These are for hard to house people. I think they need rules backed off a bit. If these were all saints they would not be homeless to begin with.
There are few rules. They can deal drugs, fence stolen goods, and pretty much any other illegal activity they choose on property. If they want to make money then they can get paid for such mundane tasks as cleaning up after themselves, making sure that their bathrooms and common areas are tidy and helping to prepare the food they eat. You know, things that regular folks do for free as part of LIVING and being RESPONSIBLE.
I think that drawing the line at robbing local businesses is not too much to ask.

But every chronic drug user does some type of illegal activity to support their habit (theft, fencing, dealing or prostitution), a daily addiction can't be done on the cheap, or on what's left over from the welfare cheque.

Prostituting oneself is not illegal; paying for sex is. To be fair though, Bill 36 is terrible legislation.

Not my problem. Lay down the law, these are the rules if you want a room, if you don't go sleep somewhere else, but don't complain if you can't find a place to sleep
You will also be attending classes 5 days a week on money management, interview skills, etc. After a few weeks you will also need to report on the employers you have been in contact with, etc to be submitted daily. Your job is to get your life in order, get a job and get off the system.

The thing of it is is, all the people that could adhere to these rules are already not homeless. It's people that can't or won't do this that are homeless.
I've said it here before, there are few to no homeless people that behave like the other 99.8 to 99.9% of the population that is not homeless.

well if they want to have funding there are rules attached. Don't want to abide by the rules? then don't apply, but don't complain
May I should start to say the world owes me a living, I want to drop out of school at grade 8, and immediately get a job for 100k per year, a free place to live, blah, blah, blah
Well guess what boys and girls, life is full of rules and you get from life exactly what you put into it

Even hard right guy here says they are entitled to a mat. Every night. But you are fooling yourself if you think that the “hard to house” are going to follow rules. Those types of homeless people do not exist.
so they don't get a room, see ya
I guess if they don't have to follow rules, then I don't either. Doing 100 kmh down Blanshard is no problem, running red lights no problem, parking on the sidewalks or triple parked on Fort no problem. Might as well stop paying my income and property taxes too. Rules - who cares!
Since laws don't apply to these people, why should they apply to me?
If they damage a room that's called damage to public property, etc that's immediate arrest and you get a nice 4x8 concrete room free of charge at the police station. Bonus, they might even feed you to boot

If they can't follow basic laws they need to be institutionalized, sobered up, and get treatment for their problems until they can become a functioning law abiding member of society. I don't even care if you don't contribute, just don't break any laws, and don't interfere with anyone else's rights. If they cannot achieve that they remain institutionalized. Why should their lawlessness interfere with the public's right to peacefulness.
I am all for a hand up, heck I will even support you, living modestly independent albeit, but I will pay even more to have you institutionalized if you can't.

Not sure if this merits a new topic, but Cool Aid has submitted their rezoning and DP for the phased redevelopment of this property. The project description is up on the Dev Tracker, drawings have not yet been posted: https://tender.victo...Number=REZ00676
Phase One includes underground parking, commercial at grade, daycare on second storey, and four storeys of residential above. Apparently they're fitting 153 rental units into those four storeys, so I anxiously await the plans.
