Closing with no notice to the public is bizarre.

On Friday 51 rooms were rentable, but on Saturday they are so far gone they might never re-open?  That's pretty odd hotel management.   Unless your main goal is to oust a union, that is, and you are looking for the right 6-month window.  Can we think of any other hotels that closed like this?  Even the Victoria Plaza had monthly renters until it finally shut totally.  The Red Lion has monthly renters in the off-season.  So does a lot of the Gorge hotels and even some Inner Harbour ones like the Admiral.

Monthly renters, AirBnB, all sorts of opportunities were at their disposal.

In 2013 the TC reported that the entire complex had undergone a renovation. Their story was light on details but did management throw money at a hotel upgrade only to have it closed three years later with no plans for its future? Seems odd.

It would be surprising if this was truly a union-busting tactic, and not a single employee took this to the media in the past weeks. Without any employees crying foul or refuting management's story, it's hard to take issue with it.

This is the same ownership that hired people as (illegal) "no-voters", and hired employees to conduct illegal straw polls among staff.  The same ownership that closed the pub, but served liquor from the lounge and let patrons go to the un-staffed pub area to consume it.  Some odd busting tactics last time, for sure.

I can tell you my source has know about this for at least a month; says the health department had a bit to do with this as the rooms have a mold issue according to him. My source is in the food and bevie industry, but not at the Tally-Ho.

It's good to see the mainstream media is on top of this.

They need to put cub reporter Jimmy Olson on the story.

The hotel component closed last October. Now the whole facility will shut down.

They cut ties with their GM back in December.

October 2, 2016:

He is considering several options for the space, from renovation to a totally new business, but he said a sale is unlikely.

“The property was listed for sale for the first part of the year and we found there was really not a lot of interest in keeping the business open,” he said. “It’s now off the market.”

At 11 a.m. on Sunday, the upstairs bar was packed with Seattle Seahawks fans. The Hideaway Café downstairs was also filled with brunchers.

“It’s business as usual for us. I’m booking bands into June,” bar manager Linda Regan said.

Last two days for Tally Ho!

TC article says the building will be demolished next year.  Bar manager Linda is moving to Save on Foods Centre.  She also says the new space will not incorporate live music, which is funny, because the owner said a few weeks ago he had no idea what he was doing with the property.  Maybe he only knows what he's not going to do with it.

So the overwhelming rumour on the street says it's going to be condos, but I'm not sure that's an educated rumour, or just an easy one.

The off-track horse betting is moving to the View Royal Casino, BTW.  It might still be open at Tally Ho for a bit while they get the move ready.

What has changed in the mindset of the motoring traveler? Why is the likes of the Ingraham and the Tally-Ho a thing of the past?

I remember all those auto courts along Gorge and the Traveler's Inns. Does everyone want to stay at the Empress, Delta, and Ocean Point now?

^I think it's more that those hotels stayed in their 1950's mindset and never modernized.

For some people, frills is the whole reason they travel.
