BC Transit has never been as well funded as it is today and it has never been less reliable.

A new bridge-deck drainage system with a rain garden and sediment catch basin will be installed to filter roadway runoff to improve water quality in the creek.

The ministry worked with the region’s local governments and environmental groups to complete the designs.

The project is part of the province’s South Island Transportation Strategy, which focuses on highway, transit and active transportation improvements in south Island communities.

The province is contributing $23.5 million and the federal government is contributing $12 million through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

The construction contract was awarded to Pomerleau Inc.

Transit employee appreciation day tomorrow.

https://engage.bctra...ce you rely on!

Tonight, in anticipation, thousands of drunk transit users on buses and trams will throw up green substances in tribute.

The tragedy of relying on BC Transit.

Mrs. Mike K. just messaged me to say her 65 bus never showed this morning in Sooke, no alert was issued. The subsequent 61 bus (there are only 2x 65s) was late. She was at the stop at around 645. She’ll be late to her job, starting at 8, in downtown Langford, and she now has to transfer to another bus to get to where she needs to go as the 65 runs through Langford and connects her office, the 61 sticks to Island Highway, requiring anyone headed to Langford to transfer.

The drive to her office is under 30 minutes, leaving right now (7:47). It’s less time earlier in the AM.

Her downtown office is served by both the 61 and 65, so she can take either. But when she’s working from Langford she’s reliant on the 65.

You should really just buy her a car.

Or give her a ride to work. You really make your wife ride the city bus? Dude…

You should really just buy her a car.

Even if she drove, there’s nowhere to park at work. Too many of her co-workers have lost their appetite for taking the bus, inverting the parking scenario. On the street, the City will fine you if you leave your vehicle for more than two hours.

The commuter parking lot nearby has ceased operating as such. Even if it were available, you would not want to leave your car there, maybe that’s why it ceased operating. Central Douglas is not a friendly place these days.

We come back together several times a week. Does that count? I wish I could drive her to work more often.

Free parking all over Langford.

When did transfers on single fairs become a thing a again? Did I miss something...

I paid this fair at 1:09... so it seems you can transfer for 90 minutes now again.

Also with transportation, there is a proposal for $150,000 to go to the “patch-and-pave” program, with crosswalk improvements and streetlights up for funding, as well.

Design work on Charters, Ella and Phillips roads is being put forward, as is a transit exchange on Wadams Way.

https://www.timescol...n-sooke-8532745

Does Sooke really need a “transit exchange”? Won’t two bus stops in a row do just fine?

Sooke should have a couple “carpool pickup” spots. Like they have on a Gulf Island. Just stand there, get picked up.

Carpooling Considerations: The District is exploring the possibility of a mobile app and partnerships with major employers to promote carpooling. Residents are encouraged to join the Facebook Sooke Carpool Group for ride-sharing opportunities if on that platform.
