meanwhile asinine British Columbians celebrate the court decision which is really just a pork barrel stimulus package for the indigenous consultation industry

Alberta has pulled out of the federal climate action plan.

Notley should of never gotten in bed with JT and Federal Liberals.

The past is so easily forgotten by some Albertans. But not all.

This is a delay and nothing more. Courts have ruled that the Government has a duty to consult with FN and in this case the judges ruled that the consultation was inadequate. The Feds will quickly arrange meetings with the FN...

The point is it shouldn't take the GoC with its unlimited resources buying a project for the project to have any chance of going ahead. There shouldn't be this much risk and uncertainty and time required by investors.

These are primarily professional activists, students who don't know the reality of working for a living and how hard it is to find a good job and ignorant public servants, no?

There are a lot more old bones than you'd expect at anti-pipeline demonstrations. You bet that the same people who were at/supported the Clayoquot Sound protests are still kicking around.

I am over the pipeline. Hopefully this means it is over and we don't have to hear about it anymore. Why does it help us in Victoria anyways?

Because the BC government gets money from it and the Federal government gets money from it and the workers make good wages to pay taxes.

All these protesters are in for a big surprise when the welfare checks stop arriving.

How does the BC government get money from it? How much will the federal government get from it? How many years until it actually pays back the federal investment we just made into it?

If BC were its own country how much would we actually get paid by Canada to put the pipeline through?

I just think economically BC should be getting as much as we want out of it.

SMH

Government revenue estimates are all readily available if you really want to know what they are. We're talking billions. The country does well when our biggest industries do well. It's really that simple. Some people don't care about Canada, I suppose, or are just too damn ignorant and have no concept of how our economy runs and how our standard of living is maintained. Hint: it's not by public servants in Victoria BC.

Anyway, oil pipelines are the new nuclear reactor. Too politically difficult to build. I guess we'll keep breaking rail by oil records month after month, which is much more dangerous. The oil will still get extracted. AB will have no carbon tax in a year when Notley is punted and Canada's carbon goals will be nuked.

I'm in AB right now and people are pissed. Even people who don't work in the O&G industry.

june 2018 saw an all-time high for rail export of oil breaking 200,000 barrels per day for the first time ever.

Once built, the expansion will contribute $5.7 billion to B.C. government coffers in its first 20 years from taxes and royalties. That’s a lot of money for low-income housing, health care, education and new bridges. Without resources, there are no social services.

That is peanuts. Less than one percent of the BC government expenditures. So overall we are getting ripped off. We have Canada where we could get way more. Seems we are being taken advantage of when we are in the driver's seat.

HUH? thats not a bad number for basically doing nothing. Dont forget the ocean below the highwater mark is Federal not Provincial as well so all the risk is shared federally. And keep in mind that we have dozens of fuel barges, ferries, container and cruise ships as well as tankers in our waters at any given time...the ship part is probably the least of the risk, the transfer to the ship is the highest risk

ok, but how much does Alberta get from oil?  Seems fair that we get dollar for dollar share for everything that is shipped to the coast

Edit:  about $3.6 Billion per year from crude oil and bitumen.  Lets say $1 Billion as BC's share is fair because all the oil doesn't flow west.

Does BC pay AB for lumber than crosses through AB?
