Traffic is closed northbound between Uptown and McKenzie due to an MVI. It sounds serious.

In a release, the government says this work marks the halfway point for the project, which is expected to be complete in spring 2025.

Once complete, the Keating overpass will eliminate the left turn across busy highway traffic. It also comes with a new sidewalk, installation of bus-on-shoulder facilities and realignment of the southbound on-ramp to Victoria.

The project costs $76.8 million with the B.C. government contributing $57.6 million, federal government contributing $16.7 million and Central Saanich contributing $2.5 million.

Anyone know what they're doing at mcdonald park and Highway 17, I saw them clearing a lot of brush and possibly trees near the exit ramp?

The new overpass under construction at the intersection of the Pat Bay Highway and Keating Cross Road will be open to traffic this summer.

The Ministry of Transportation says the flyover will be open after work is complete on widening Keating Cross Road, the flyover deck surface and railings and resurfacing portions of the site.

Earlier estimates had suggested the $76.8-million project would be completed in the fall.

It will still complete in the fall, though. Like most highway projects, they can open to traffic well before they’re fully complete.

Motorists who use the Keating Cross Road exit from the Pat Bay Highway are being warned that the traffic pattern approaching the exit is about to change.

Starting today, the left-turn lane and waiting area for northbound lanes on the highway will be moved south by 200 to 300 metres.

The Transportation Ministry said the change is needed to allow contractors to finish work on a retaining wall for a southbound on-ramp.

The new traffic pattern will remain in place until the flyover project is completed.

Drivers are being reminded to obey signs in the area, and drive with caution in active construction zones, and while using the new left turn lane.

From the province:

Drivers are advised that the new Keating Cross Road flyover will open to northbound traffic on Monday, July 28, 2025.

This means a change to how drivers get to Keating Cross Road from Highway 17 northbound.

The traffic changeover will happen overnight Sunday, July 27. As of midnight, drivers travelling northbound on Highway 17 to Keating Cross Road must use the right travel lane and take Exit 18 onto the flyover. The left‑turn lane and turning bay previously used to get to Keating Cross Road will be permanently closed.

Construction continues in the area, with some temporary closures in place. Access from Tamany Drive to Keating Cross Road will be closed. Local traffic can reach Keating Cross Road via Buena Vista Road.

Motorists should watch for new signage and construction activity, drive carefully and allow extra travel time.

Great news! It’s been a long time coming. I drive that stretch every day - it will be nice to try the flyover

I have found I actually prefer my alternate route to the office since this project began; coming from the Gorge I take Tillicum past the mall then turn left onto Burnside and ultimately Interurban and drive all the way past Camosun to W Saanich, hang a left there and its a straight shot to Keating. Traffic contingent I can get door to door in about 25-28 minutes.. Much less traffic overall and its quite relaxing actually. I take the same route home, in reverse, and again compared to the volume on the PBH its a breeze. I'm only physically at work once a week so this routine is actually quite pleasant.

After just over two years of construction, the Keating Flyover is set to open to drivers of the Pat Bay Highway on Monday.

The project, which cost $76.8 million, first got underway in May 2023.

Pretty sure the CIA or FSB won't be too interested in my commuting route, its not like I have an "enemies list" of guys lying in wait to lay an IED under my car as I pass by lol.....

Any photos, Mike?

Somebody needs to go get a drone photo or video.

You’re right. They aren’t. Threat actors into scamming a lot of money are though. And they could target your wife using the info, not you.
Better safe than sorry IMHO.

If you’re heading down the Patricia Bay Highway (Hwy. 17) toward Keating Cross Road, here’s your first tip: stay right and maybe buckle up for a small civic thrill.

The long-anticipated Keating Flyover officially opened at midnight, and for some, it’s worth the detour just to cruise across $80 million of smooth blacktop.

“I’m about to take it right after this interview,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor.

Sure, it’s an overpass. But it’s a really nice overpass.
