Ah, so finally, you admit, 'we actually don't know how long it would take' rather than 'it'll kill you!'.

There is no such thing as a safe amount of alcohol. Any amount is bad for you, and we can’t say, science says, where the threshold currently is between too much consumption and a little bit of consumption, leading to serious consequences.

This isn’t a laughing matter. Alcohol is the single most destructive force in society today. Nothing remotely compares to the damage and suffering it causes.

So I will continue to point to the double standard we support, sternly warning against the use of some destructive substances and encouraging the use of others.

Alcohol has upsides also though.

Some people use it to relax, some use it to overcome shyness or poor social skills.

Most use it responsibly.     Many don't, including myself occasionally.

But I don't want to ban it.

Time is the single most destructive force in society, and always will be. Moderate alcohol drinking will not beat time to killing you.

Oh I agree.

I just don’t like being gaslighted about alcohol.

You’d have much more time on your hands if you weren’t drunk as often.

BC bar fined $3,000 for clearing drinks from table late 12 minutes late

"I find that the licensee had not removed the liquor from the table before 2:30 a.m... which was half an hour after the end of liquor service as required by the licence," BC Liquor and Cannabis Branch delegate Nerys Poole said in the decision. "I find that liquor was still on the table at 2:42 a.m."

How about the bar/bowling alley at Uptown I think, that got fined $7k when a patron took a beer from the bar area into the bowling area. Apparently that is against the rules. Beer and Bowling kind of go together don't they?

These prohibition times liquor laws need to change. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Things are getting better.. slowly.

Remember when you couldn’t bring a drink from the hotel bar to your room? Couldn’t stand up and change tables with a drink in your hand and a server had to move it? Couldn’t have any live music without a special endorsement? Or happy hour had to be all day and not just specific hours?

Also the admin side, is so so much better. Want to change your service hours? Online form. Want to print a new license? Online. Need to update some info? Bceid portal. So much easier.

Not to mention the continuation of wholesale pricing for licensees. 30% right to the bottom line.

It’s nostalgic to see this!

Could this be the first LP application since before COVID?

i didn't even know about this place. it seems to be on the roof of uptown. it would be a cool spot for a pub:

A BC pub has been fined $7,000 after a customer took a beer from the bar to its bowling alley.

According to a Jan. 16 BC Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch decision, the Victoria bar argued the rule was difficult to manage because customers couldn't understand the rationale behind it.

However, BC Liquor and Cannabis Branch delegate Dianne Flood said the bar hadn't presented any evidence that it had taken steps to stop customers wandering into the bowling alley with their drinks and slapped it with the fine.

The decision says the Canadian Brewhouse and Grill had previously been fined $4,000 and had numerous warnings after its customers were found to have taken their drinks to the bowling alley.

lol. Ya seems odd that “it’s hard to stop people” is an attempted excuse.

People are weird. We’ve had to stop people from taking their half beer to go. “Hey what’s the big deal.”

The bowling prices used to be ludicrous but they’ve reworked it looks like and it’s more reasonable. No idea how the food is (poorly rated loos like, if that matters).

Courtenay pub fined $3,000 for allowing intoxicated patron to remain

Screenshot 2025-03-26 05.52.37.png
Comox Valley Record

Courtenay's Whistle Stop pub has been fined $3k for allowing an intoxicated patron to remain on the premises Nov. 2, 2024.

Inspectors observed an unsteady female patron w/drooping eyes, who dropped into a booth & slid down the seat, leaning into another patron, then observed her conversing w/someone, eyes closed & head nodding.

“Inspector observed Patron's mouth moving slowly, speaking quietly w/a lack of articulation,”.

She was brought a glass of water. “She lifted her head w/eyes closed, opened her mouth wide, used her tongue to find the straw in the glass. “After sips, she returned to resting her head on the table for the next 3 minutes.” Pub staff passed patron multiple times without asking about her condition.

Bartender advised inspectors of pub’s policy to provide intoxicated patrons w/water & call a cab. Bartender said pub was short-staffed & apologized for not having seen the patron.

This was the only time the bartender let an intoxicated person wait in the pub for a cab. He didn’t want her to wait outside in an unsafe area.

“Notwithstanding the professed good intentions of staff, the licensee is liable for the contravention as alleged".
