Interesting. Yates Street already feels quite over saturated with fitness centres. Ah well, I’m just happy to see the space filled!

This will be great for people who want to workout Anytime or who can't find Anytime to do it.

Huh, there's already a gym on the same block literally a stone throw's away (Forge) and another one a block west (Studio 4); add another block and there's at least the downtown Goodlife and YMCA to add to the count. Can't complain about having too many places where people go get fit though.

There's also the two fitness studios next door to each other in LoJo.  Which is a nice juxtaposition to our new Fried Chicken District ® aka Cook Street Village.

We need more southern fried chicken places.

Is that even possible? If you go too far south of CSV you'll end up in the ocean.*

*no offense, Mike

Ahhh...those would be fried chicken places to the south of CSV as opposed to places serving chicken in a southern-fried style. I appreciate that it's a subtle distinction. ;)

Jealous? I assumed you were going to be couriering me some of that southern-fried comfort. I'll be home all evening.

It takes both commercial spaces, then. In before the ground floor on the Yates on Yates also ends up being a fitness facility!

I don't want to start a row but maybe Yates is turning into Fitness Row? Rowing is good exercise.

 Rowing is good exercise.

You need to wade before you row or is it roe vs wade. They keep talking about this somewhere, perhaps on another tread.

Noticed that today is the 11th anniversary of the rezoning approval for this site, but not the current building. It was for the Robbins/McColl proposal that pre-dated the Emaar proposal that predated Chard's Yello. I can't remember why the three partners weren't able to follow through. All they needed was the relative formality of a development permit.

The market tanked just a year later (end of September) and took down quite a number of projects that had made or had been making their way through the approval process.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the money markets were already pivoting well ahead of the plug being pulled. If you want to know where things are headed follow the lenders. They’re always five steps ahead.

I'll always wonder about the circumstances surrounding why and how in 2008 a luxury real estate company from the UAE found this property and thought it would be the latest jewel in its portfolio.

It would have stemmed from their engagement with Vancouver real-estate projects. They were buying up quite a lot of land at the time and Canada was particularly in vogue at the time. Their tentacles spread across the world, for sure. And then bang! All over.
