Immigration targets.... targets.... if it is being managed at all it should be managed to account for the needs of our economy and the needs of our existing residents. Things like our overcapacity health care system, housing affordability, infrastructure etc are all reasons to manage immigration. This is not being done. Instead the department is focused on juicing it without consideration for these factors. This is my concern. Not people moving here, not immigrants, not other cultures here. The melting pot concept is what makes us great. But there is no need to force us into a vision dreamed up in seminars held in Davos by billionaires... WE should have a say in our communities. Otherwise it's colonisation not immigration.

But we are not a melting pot, we are a cultural mosaic. A melting pot might be an improvement.

Love the high interest rate chat, my last mortgage was 10%, and we thought we got a steal.

We started about where we are now, but the housing wasn’t a million plus…

This is not about housing exclusively, but how investing in housing has hurt our economic output..

GDP growth rate in China is currently 6.3%. Canada is 1.4%. Lots of wealthy Chinese to keep driving up prices.

Forty percent of Trudeau’s new cabinet are landlords or real estate investors, up from 30%

^Well if they have mortgages against their rental properties and are in markets with rent controls then they probably deserve our pity rather than disdain!

I wonder if the author feels that having rental properties owned by REITs and large corporations is better than individual ma and pa landlords?!

We can expect costs to continue to rise as government fees and costs are becoming a huge factor in the rising cost of new housing.

Oak Bay ‘masterpiece’ finally sells after 14 years on Greater Victoria market

https://www.vicnews....-market-4337992

The home sold for $7.5 million, according to Scott Piercy of Engel and Volkers Vancouver Island, but a look through this listing’s history reveals a real estate price roller coaster.

The mansion, which features more than 14,000 square feet of living space, was originally listed in 2009 for $11.5 million. Then the house, which has five bedrooms, two kitchens and 10 bathrooms, sat on the market at that price until 2016, when the price was dropped to $9.7 million.

This house is good for anyone that has sudden bladder issues. You are never far from the closest bathroom.

Designer: now what should we do with this space here off the kitchen?
Owner: another bathroom, of course.
Designer: what about here adjacent the laundry?
Owner: another bathroom
Designer: how about here at the front door?
Owner: you know the drill

I just assumed there were 2 bathrooms attached to each bedroom so you'd be equidistant from both sides of the bed.

$7,688,000

4035 Locarno Lane
Saanich, British Columbia V8N3Z9

So picturesque it was once the setting of a Hollywood movie featuring Matthew McConaughey. This luxurious 6-bedroom 5-bath 6,044-foot residence is stationed on a manicured 1.01-acre waterfront lot with 370 feet of shoreline. Just 2 mins drive to UVic and 10 minutes from downtown Victoria, BC, this gated property offers ultimate privacy, 270-degree water and island views, expansive patios, an infinity pool, 20-foot primary room ceilings, heated granite floors and more. While this residence is virtually move-in ready, 4035 Locarno Lane is also ripe with opportunities for transformation: Angular exterior features harken to contemporary Scandinavian design that could be readily brought to life with a new metal roof and HardiePlank siding. Similarly, this residence’s north and south wings offer distinct living spaces that could be devoted to an owner’s suite, and quarters to house children / young adults, guests, or home support staff to allow the future owner to gracefully age in place.

Annual inflation rose to 4% in August, up from 3.3% in July, driven largely by rising fuel costs.

Looks like interest rates are going to go up again, probably 2-3x more by next spring.

What’s the average now for 5 year rates. 5.75% or thereabouts? So what can we expect by spring, about 6.5%, maybe closer to 7%? Is that what it’ll take? Those mortgage rates convert to 11-13% for lines of credit.

Good plan. Make people’s houses even more expensive. Reduce spending even more. Bankrupt more businesses. Clown World economy edition.

THEY printed billions for nothing except advertising and buying/distributing/coercing government juice from foreign companies. Inflation is unstoppable. It’s called currency debasement. This isn’t rocket science.

BC still charges you a luxury car tax if your vehicle is worth $55k or higher.

The Ford F-150 bare bones 2x4 regular cab short bed starts at $50k for 2024. It was $29.9k several years ago, in 2017. Now you add 4x4 to a bare bones pick-up and you’re paying luxury tax.

That’s why your plumber is charging $175/hour, kids.
