I don't interact with them, I note them trying to coerce clicks, offering services that don't really make sense in context with the posts, or they're engaging with users who report the accounts as bots.

We get a dozen or more bots attempting to register accounts on VV every day. The accounts are ridiculously easy to spot. Some make it past the registration anti-spam measures and try to post here, with AI created content, but it's very easy to identify even when they're creating content that uses the thread for guidance.

Btw, when was the last time anyone encountered a bot on X?

Everyday I have to deal with them on Facebook. On X, nada.

Spammers and fake accounts are used to pad the numbers of these platforms, and Musk appears to have handled that hashed, at least as far as I can tell.

My experience: recently I opened an extremely niche parody account on X/Twitter. In contrast to a well-established, not-so-niche parody account I occasionally contribute to, the new account gets new followers every day from accounts with names like “Renee4876473988383002773”, all of whom have large breasts. And, posts by Elon Musk and Laura Loomer are very prominently featured in the new account’s feed.

Meanwhile on Facebook, no such BS shows up.

The algorithms suck us in differently, I guess.

Yeah, I guess that could indeed be the case. The Facebook spam management is getting quite tedious.

SF has some type of a corportate "revenue tax" that takes a percentage of your gross sales, even if your "gross sales" is just processing that dollar amount.  So lets say you accept a $100 payment, on behalf of a customer, to give 99.5% of that to the product vendor, you just take thattiny percentage for processing.  SF charges you a percentage of the entire $100.

Elon Musk, the controversial owner of ad-funded platform X, has followed through on his threat to sue a global alliance of advertisers over alleged antitrust activity.

His company filed the federal lawsuit today in Texas against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), targeting its members CVS Health, Mars, Orsted, Unilever, and the trade body behind it, the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA). GARM didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

CEO Linda Yaccarino announced the lawsuit in an open letter to advertisers, stating it was “not a decision we took lightly, but it is a direct consequence of their actions.”

The actions in question refer to allegations made by the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee, accusing GARM’s members of violating antitrust laws by censoring conservative voices online and coordinating efforts to restrict free speech on X.

First Canadian arrested for post on Twitter?

I suspect they will arrest and release. Intimidation is a safer route than challenging their hate speech laws. I’m curious who she is and what she said to get arrested.

Anti-vaxxers

Conservatives

Am I missing anything?

Police did not name the suspect, who has been released from custody. Nor did they share the suspect's gender, saying only that "several" Criminal Code charges have been recommended, but have not yet been approved.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Carmen Kiener told The Canadian Press the arrested person is a woman who was allegedly targeting members of the South Asian community.

Kiener said police hope the woman will make her first court appearance in the next few weeks, and if charges are approved, more details will be made public.

It will be interesting to see the charges.

As far as I'm concerned, "all South Asians are idiots" is free speech, while "kill all South Asians" is illegal.

Here is the relevant section:

Section 319(1): Publicly inciting hatred—makes it an offence to communicate statements in a public place which incite hatred against an identifiable group, where it is likely to lead to a breach of the peace. The Crown prosecutor can proceed either by indictment or by summary process. The maximum penalty is imprisonment of not more than two years. There is no minimum punishment.

Section 319(2): Promoting hatred—makes it an offence to wilfully promote hatred against any identifiable group, by making statements (other than in private conversation). The Crown prosecutor can proceed either by indictment or by summary process. The maximum penalty is imprisonment of not more than two years.

Section 319(3): Four defences—provides specific defences to the offence of promoting hatred. A person will not be convicted if:

  • the person establishes that the statements communicated were true;
  • in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text;
  • the statements were relevant to any subject of public interest, the discussion of which was for the public benefit, and if on reasonable grounds the person believed them to be true; or
  • in good faith, the person intended to point out, for the purpose of removal, matters producing or tending to produce feelings of hatred toward an identifiable group in Canada.
