I can see why they hosed off the firefighters after the Fernwood fire, since smoke engulfed a Fernwood neighbourhood home after an Esquimalt industrial fire. I suspect it was the firefighters.

double post.

This fire affected a larger portion of the building that you might normally see in a fire like this.

Fire is not considered suspicious, investigation ongoing

Apr. 11, 2022

BC Coroners Service, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP and provincial fire officials are investigating a fatality in North Saanich related to a fire early Saturday morning.

RCMP Cpl. Duncan Ferguson confirmed the fatality.

“Shortly before 4 a.m. on April 9, RCMP and North Saanich Fire responded to a structure fire at a rural property on Creswell (Road) off McTavish Road,” he said. “There is one male occupant in the affected structure, who is deceased.”

The age of the deceased individual is not known at this stage. It is also not clear whether the man is related to the mother and child who were able to escape from the multi-use structure consisting of a shop and a dwelling.

That seems suspicious to me. Suspicious that they have already deemed it not suspicious when they don’t even know who the dead guy is.

Man presumed dead, woman in hospital after incident on Nanaimo sailboat

April 12, 2022

A 58-year-old woman is in hospital and a 59-year-old man is missing and presumed drowned after witnesses called police about an argument on a sailboat near Nanaimo, B.C.

Mounties were called at approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday after the couple were heard arguing aboard the vessel anchored between Newcastle Island and Protection Island, east of downtown Nanaimo.

Mounties responded aboard a Nanaimo Port Authority vessel and found the woman adrift in the harbour clutching a rope near the boat.

"She was getting ready to go under," said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O'Brien, adding the woman appeared to be suffering from hypothermia and severe intoxication.

The 59-year-old man is still missing after an exhaustive search of the water and shoreline, including unsuccessful attempts to ping his cellphone.

Police are still looking for the man but are "sadly working on the presumption that he may have drowned," O'Brien said.

Neighbours say fighting was regular before presumed drowning by Nanaimo

Apr. 13, 2022

Neighbours heard the couple fighting often before Monday night when both landed in the waters near Nanaimo and one presumably drowned.

This morning some Protection Island residents were checking the water by their properties, looking for a missing man.

Screenshot 2022-04-13 21.28.40.png

Gus Gatter, who lives on a boat, says he called the RCMP Monday night about a couple fighting on a nearby boat. He says he was worried because it was more intense than usual. About 40 minutes later, during a call back from police, he heard both the woman and the man in the water calling for help. Police launched a response but Gatter says the cries for help quickly went silent.

Those living nearby said fighting between the pair had been common in recent months and police had attended the boat before.

“He was yelling and swearing and screaming. [I] couldn’t really tell what he was saying and they have since towed that boat away,” said Wilson.

Called the Honu Moku, authorities towed it and parked it along Nanaimo’s waterfront.

FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — The Town of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island said Thursday that a fire that burned through a block of businesses last week was intentionally set.

City officials said the fire that started early on April 7 originated from a deck behind Crystal Seas Kayaking and was determined to be arson, KING-TV reported.

Officials said the cause was determined by a team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The regional ATF and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office are searching for suspects.

Four businesses — Herb’s Tavern, Crows Nest Coffee Shoppe, Crystal Seas Kayaks and Windermere Real Estate — were destroyed. Officials say the response by emergency crews kept the damage from being worse. No injuries were reported.

Victoria Police say they are assisting in responding to a house fire on Caledonia Avenue, where one person was brought to the hospital.

The fire happened early this morning, and Victoria Fire responded to the fire.

VicPD says the person who was transported to the hospital was initially believed to have potentially life-threatening injuries, but they are now considered non-life-threatening.
