Good Afternoon Vibrant Victorians,

The latest Lisa, Gene & Eric show is up for your listening pleasure and we were lucky to get the operator of Shatterbox Coffee, Kalen Harris, to join Gene and Eric to discuss the decision to locate in the 900 block of Pandora across from Our Place. Stimulating conversation, perfect for a rainy day. Enjoy the show, share with a friend and support our sponsors if you can. http://bit.ly/1NOcmVY

Good Afternoon Vibrant Victorians, This week you will be happy/sad to NOT hear the dulcette tones of Eric as he had to be out of town and when you have the mayor as a co host, you have to stick to the program regardless. So the show goes on and this week we had Sandy Beaman of the Tech Park and BCBC fame join the gang. Can public sector projects come in under budget and on time?Hard to know in this climate with CRD sewer plans and a bridge project that cant seem to even get the steel component right, but Sandy tells tales of developments gone by when just such a thing could happen. Enjoy the show and please support our sponsors.

Good Afternoon Vibrant Victorians,

As i write this the rain is winding its way down the storm drains like taxpayers' money in the CRD's hands. Doing our best to avoid homeless issues ad nauseam, the gang at Lisa,Gene & Eric has another chat about crap and the process occurring to solve our issues around said crap. Kim Fowler from Sustainability Makes Scents and Chris Corps of Pivotal IRM have been watching the process for years now and share their observations. Strong Language and the use of the word BILLIONS far too many times. Enjoy the show. http://bit.ly/1Pl9Ntw

Good Afternoon Vibrant Victorians,

This weeks Lisa, Gene and Eric ponders how and why a city or town would go to the effort of attracting a national or international attraction so we focus on Gatlinburg TN and Calgary AB who got ahead of the curve to ensure they would  "WIN" and the other cities or communities vying for the chance didnt. Enjoy the show. http://bit.ly/1mWWoid

Looking forward to listening to this one. I've been to Gatlinburg, TN in my opinion it is tied with the neighbouring city of Pigeon Forge as the tackiest and trashiest place(s) I have ever seen. By a long shot.

sometimes i seem to not get my point across. What attracted me to gatlinburg, wasnt gatlinburg as such, but the technique they used to attract Ripleys to their town. The city bought a piece of land, re zoned it specifically for an aquarium and then gave it to ripleys. Victoria has large tracts of under utilized land that countless blue ribbon panels have reported on and still we have little to show for it.

in victoria's case and based on some fairly well capitalized owners of decent tracts of land being under utilized, maybe all the city would have to do is allow fast track zoning for a large scale development that would cost the city nothing and generate fees and taxes up the ying yang. As i have said numerous times, the david foster path is of no use to anyone if all we can do is escort potential business partners along the path and show them industrial zoned land that will take 5 years to re zone

Thought this one was great (also scary and frustrating). I do really hope more people, especially those that are supposed to be in charge, listen this one.

Good Morning Vibrant Victorians,

Some of the people behind www.aresst.ca  wanted to share their thoughts on the sewage treatment process and solutions so we had Brian Burchill come in. It should be said that I can get heated at times and this show is o exception. What I am learning is that promoters of one thought, tend to pass over the problems and focus on their benefits. Brian was no different than our last guests advocating for mini stations around the region. The pointof LG&E is not to provide THE answer, but to have the listener think more about what they here so they can partake intelligently in our society's challenges rather than accept the pablum our politicians and news media feed us. Enjoy the show and subscribe on iTunes so you can get the show as soon as it comes out. http://bit.ly/209OEYe

Good Morning Vibrant Victorians,

Nuance is understanding that cooking oil can substitute for diesel but Oil of Ulay cant. Nuance is understanding that although Jane Jacobs preaches breaking up long blocks to promote vibrant neighbourhoods, forcing developers to put walk ways in their developments ruins layouts and creates unused alleys. Using nuance badly creates unforeseen circumstances that the public will have to live with whilst the politicians go on to their well paid consulting jobs. Enjoy the show http://bit.ly/1nbKe4F

As far as I could tell, you didn't even talk about these types of walkways in the show, so I'm not sure why you're bringing these up here.

As someone who walks about 6 km downtown every day, I love these walkways.  I am excited for the new one in the Hudson project, meaning people will now be able to walk from Caledonia to Pandora without using a roadside crosswalk.  Those are nice things to have, these people places, and any that are unused (e.g, the one between Fisgard and Cormorant, which I have walked by for 10 years now but only just discovered that it even exists 2 months ago) more speaks to their design than to demand.

Nagel

great points and you are right i did not discuss it in this show, but I have brought it up in the past. The "walkway" at The Falls development on douglas is barely used and the walkway required at The Union has left the ground floor retail very difficult to work with as a retailer and to my understanding doesnt get a lot of use. Fan Tan Alley however does get a ton of use and I agree the walkway path between the buildings on the hudson site are good examples. That is what nuance is about and I doubt you could ever do another fan tan alley with todays building codes and restrictions. I love the walkway that leads off of a parking lot on Langley and feeds into bastion square, those are the gems of this city, but I would suggest they made sense rather than were mandated.

^ Looking at it from another viewpoint, one could argue that the developer of the Union and the Falls looked at the walkways as a hindrance and designed them (very) poorly because of that.

Clearly the Hudson developers cared more about the walkway and put some effort into the design. It shows.
