It's actually 50/50 shade/sun for the early afternoon then in full sun for the rest of the day. The sun sets near Promontory in the summer.

For those of us who are hair challenged a patio that offers the option of sun or shade during lunch is a blessing :)

Wow, over two years since the last post.  Time for a brief update and mini review.

The outdoor patio now has gigantic umbrella/canopy structures with megawatts of glowing red quartz heating lamps.

We had not been here before and frankly only came because we had a gift certificate.  As a quick perusal of the online reviews did not show high marks for the food we were a little apprehensive.  Ahh, but those worries were quickly laid to rest.  The waiter said there was a recent management change and we found both the food and service were good - definitely not overpriced crappy tourist trap food .  And while the salmon was a pretty basic preparation (very diet friendly), the Petrale Sole was REALLY outstanding, the kind of dish you'd come back for again - and we will.  The portion sizes are also generous.  Oh, and did I mention the donuts?  Those mini glazed donuts with warm Kahlua & Nutella dipping sauce were really something.

Also note, as can be seen below, all the tables along the railing were tables for two and the outdoor seating was pretty much filled by 6:30PM - so you might want to make reservations.  The outdoor seating is great, with views almost as good as Lure's.  I'm giving it a thumbs up as the food, at least what we ordered, was good, with the Petrale Sole being a particular winner.

We asked the restaurant about seating for the upcoming Symphony Splash as the patio is a primo spot for watching it.

We were told they are planning a special event starting at 6PM.  You can reserve a table for the entire evening starting at $100 per person, including a full prime-rib buffet.   That's the Bronze seating, which may be inside.  The Silver seating is $125, and the Gold is $150.  The pricing is based on the views so I would imagine the Gold seats are like the ones we had that were right along the railing.

That salmon does look very weak. How was the fish cooked in your opinion? It looks rock hard fried in the picture.

The salmon was fine - not overcooked.  It was advertised as a simple preparation and that's what you got.  The salmon was the star as they like to say on the cooking shows.

Looks like sockeye. Tends to be a little on the lean side, but fresh in season right now.

Menu says it's wild Fraser River sockeye. Doesn't get any better than that - especially if it was swimming the same day. That doesn't really need anything, just grill it, and don't overcook it. It looks like maybe it only has some parsley on it, put on after it was cooked.

Probably out of the water three, four days easy. Looks like some compound butter to finish. Sockeye is good eating, better smoking, coho or spring is better for food service, higher fat content and tends to keep more moisture on the grill.

Wonder what their management changes consisted of? Jim Romer still at the helm?

Matt.
