We share a very long border with Russia. Should we not be concerned about defence?

We don't share a land border with Russia.

The government now 0 for 7 against General officers it decided it wanted to make an example of. 3rd one now suing (or planning to) the Government for damages.

In case you didn't follow this one, General Whelan was charged after he indirectly influenced a performance review to IMPROVE the score of a member who threatened to out him if he didn't. Dumb perhaps but a criminal act?

Millar said his client plans to launch a civil suit against the federal government and "anyone who participated in the destruction of his career without doing their duty to investigate.

The Ontario Court of Justice has stayed a sexual assault charge against retired Lt.-Gen. Trevor Cadieu because the case took too long to go to trial, said his lawyer.

Cadieu was poised to take command of the Canadian Army in 2021. His case is the second military sexual offence trial to be terminated in recent months due to delays in civilian court.

"The court stayed the charge he faced because the prosecution breached his constitutional right to a timely trial," said Cadieu's lawyer Scott Hutchison in a media statement. "This brings the case conclusively to an end."

Cadieu's trial date was scheduled for February in Kingston, Ont. His legal team argued his right to a trial within a reasonable time, guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, had been violated.

^ Another 30 year old case along a similar vein as Dany Fortin. I would not be surprised to hear that the prosecutor intentionally delayed the case to avoid another embarrassing trial and lawsuit against the government.

Nevertheless, Cadieu will always be guilty in the minds of the progressives.

Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin has reached an undisclosed settlement in his lawsuit over how the Canadian military and federal government responded to an allegation of sexual misconduct.

Fortin was removed as head of Canada's COVID-19 vaccine rollout campaign in May 2021 while he was under investigation for an allegation dating back to 1988, when he was at military college.

Canada purchases 14 P8 Poseidon aircraft, with option for 2 more. Deliveries are expected to start mid 2026 and be completed by 2027, ahead of the pending 2030 retirement of the legacy CP-140 Arouras. They will be based at CFB Comox here on the Island and CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia.

In November, Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, published a video explaining the dire state of the force. Among other problems, Topshee reported that only one of the navy’s new offshore patrol vessels can only be deployed at a single time due to personnel shortages. The navy’s old Halifax-class frigates, he added, will remain Canada’s “only surface combatants” for at least 15 years despite being at the end of their design life.

Yes the Halifax class ships are 30 years old. Something tells me that they are good for another 30 with regular maintenance and refits.

The war in the Ukraine has certainly demonstrated and advanced UAV and sea based drone capabilities. If we are not already there yet we will soon be at the point were a drone can be programmed to simply fly a route 50 ft off of the ground and kill everything in a defined area and/or target a specific type of target, find it and explode. No human operator, no signal to detect or jam, no (current) way to easily defend against it. On that basis we probably need to start re-think our strategy in most areas. The Chinese could probably produce a million drones at the cost of one naval ship.

Stephenson pressed Blair on Canada’s military readiness, pointing out that sources say Canada now has a three-day ammunition supply and not 30 days as mandated by NATO commitments.

The Canadian military’s all-in embrace of far-left 'anti-oppression' dogma

The official position of the Canadian Armed Forces is that they – and the country they serve – are irredeemably racist and oppressive

The Canadian Military Journal is the official peer-reviewed academic journal of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Published quarterly since 2000, it has the stated mission “to enhance the continuing development of the profession of arms in Canada.” Its inaugural issue discussed the expansion of NATO. In 2005, it devoted an entire issue to Arctic sovereignty. As recently as 2020, it was considering the implications of filling the RCAF with unmanned drones.

But the latest edition — which was just posted online — contains little to no mention of strategy, geopolitics or the avalanche of contemporary problems facing the Canadian Armed Forces. There’s not a single reference to the recruiting crisis, which has left vacancies of up to 40 per cent in some departments. No mention of the plummeting maintenance standards that recently prompted the commander of the Royal Canadian Navy to declare that his fleet was in a “storm” with no end in sight. No discussion of why Canada is slashing its military budget even as its peer countries do the exact opposite.

Instead — in a signal of just how far the Canadian Armed Forces has embraced far-left “anti-racist” ideology — the entire issue is devoted to how the Canadian military is a racist, patriarchal den of colonialist oppression that needs to be torn down and remade from scratch.
