Anywhere you can smoke, you can smoke weed now. Sadly too often I see smokers of both sorts congregating at or near signs demarkating non-smoking areas such as bus shelters and public squares/parks.

You can't drink in public but you can smoke weed. Really?

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

Some intoxicants are more equal than others.

The downtown Original FARM location (Douglas/Johnson) has now received both provincial and municipal approval, and will become the first fully legal dispensary to open in Victoria in the coming weeks.

The CoV has sent their Hillside location municipal application back to Public Hearing.

Oh that’s great. Have they confirmed that through social media?

THE ORIGINAL FARM DOWNTOWN

The Original FARM Downtown, 1402 Douglas Street, has been approved now both provincially and municipally and is weeks away from opening.

Our next steps will be our final inspection from the Liquor Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) to obtain our official license. From there we will be able to order our inventory allowing us to re-open.

In California, MedMen's core market, highly regulated companies are struggling to compete for customers with illicit dealers who charge far less.

same problem we have probably worse. nobody is busting “bootleggers”.

California is so cash starved that they did it wrong and over-taxed the industry, so only 20% of pot sales are sold through legit dispensaries.

Oregon's pot industry is faring much better, as the article goes on to say:

Some of the other states to legalize, like Colorado and Oregon, pursued a different strategy, liberally granting dispensary and farm licenses. In those states, retail legal prices have plunged, and dispensaries now account for about 60 to 70 percent of all sales.

I think that BC is closer to CA then OR or CO. The illegal growers here are given free reign as the Government doesn't want to press FN issues and taxes are actually quite high when you consider the excise tax the Feds charge in addition to PST/GST.

While several continue to operate without a provincial licence, the city’s position is it is up to the province to enforce its regulations, said Bill Eisenhauer, Victoria’s director of engagement. “People are supposed to have a provincial licence and if not, it’s up to the province to enforce.”

Once again the city is taking the approach of it being someone else's fault and not theirs. They allowed these shops to open before it was legal. They created this mess. They should be responsible for cleaning it up.

"Bring it on", but then someone else has to solve the problem or at the very least someone else's money.  :whyme:

Saw that and what a cop out. In other words the Mayor has directed the police not to enforce the laws which means that the only penalty here would be an administrative one (ie fine) which the store could then ignore.

It's nice to see the CoV treating all businesses equally.  :whyme:

Victoria’s only cannabis lounge moved into the space of the former Leaf Compassion Dispensary at 950 Yates St...the reason his application for a lounge at the Yates Street location was denied was because no proper legislation exists for lounges...Cheyne said that in recent meetings with the city, it was quietly decided not to put forward more fines against Terp City. Cheyne cited that he hasn’t received a fine in six months, and that the city gave him a neutral-toned letter explaining the circumstances. “The letter points out valid points as to why we are operating in a legal grey area supplying a safe consumption site,” Cheyne wrote in an email. “No one exactly said the words ‘we won’t be fined anymore’ but it’s clear if I do continue to get fined I can challenge each one and get them dropped, this is about medical patients and access to a safe consumption space...“To be clear, under current City bylaws and other regulations, on site consumption of cannabis is illegal and cannabis lounges are not permitted,” wrote Sheldon Johnson, manager of engagement at the City of Victoria...

What other illegal businesses does the CoV turns a blind eye to so blatantly? And let's be honest, pot consumption lounges are no more about medical necessity than bars and nightclubs. If the province does permit onsite cannabis consumption businesses at some point, then they should be regulated the same way as liquor establishments are today.

Further to the above post.

...Since it began operating as a lounge at the beginning of March, the Yates Street Terp City has hosted DJ’s and events...

What other medical establishments host such events?

AFAIK, 100% of the quasi-medical benefits related to pot are from CBD and not THC which can be ingested with the same effect as being smoked.

THC, THCA, & THCVA all have specific benefits. As do CBD, CBGA, CBDA, CBCA, CBGVA, CBDVA & CBCVA.

Ok let me rephrase that, medical benefits that have even the minimum amount of scientific peer reviewed validation.

What ever bicycle part recycling center or impromptu housing space or street-side pharmaceutical distribution point is operating in the city limits this week?
