Why do they need a gas station?

Any neighbourhood that doesn't have its own gas station is surely a fraud and a joke. Just ask Oak Bay about it.

James Bay deserves to be energy independent.

James Bay deserves to be energy independent.

They should probably have their own nuclear reactor.

Listen, nobody should be questioning James Bay's commitment to climate action. But until the day comes when political hot air can power our Cadillacs, we're going to need those gas stations, am I right?

Weren't they scheduled to get a windmill once?

I'm pretty sure the windmill-powered Cadillacs were abandoned because they presented all kinds of issues re: overhead lines.

First Oak Bay, then James Bay... if present trends continue I predict Ross Bay will be the next neighbourhood to lose its gas station.

Didn't Cordova Bay lose theirs?

Cadboro Bay still has one.

There's definitely a correlation if not a causation.

Doesn't the Thrify Foods, just a moment away from the old gas station, sell motor oil? I thought I saw some there.

Maybe she required specific oil?

Even we sell motor oil. When you need it, you need it. In the last 12 years I have not ever needed to buy oil, even once.

If your gas light ever comes on in downtown Victoria, you’d better hope you’re headed for Fairfield or Vic West. Because the only thing resembling a gas station in James Bay is a long-dead Save-On Gas at Menzies and Michigan.

For the past eight years, it’s been a Shell station in name only. The pumps? Dry. The storefront? Empty. The lot? It could be the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse scene from The Last of Us.

James Bay resident Jenn Reimer has had enough.

“People are angry and they want to see something happen,” she says. Last fall, she gathered more than a thousand signatures and brought her petition to Victoria City Council.

But nearly a year later? “I’ve heard nothing,” she says.

People are angry?   I'm not so sure.

Whatever happened to the Chevron project on the Pat Bay highway - former FasGas/Cunninghams lot?

Last update in the media was that work was supposed to start by the end of last year: Gas station complex with A&W along the Pat Bay Highway gets green light (victoriabuzz.com)

Should we get some neon signs and attach them to the fence?

ELK LAKE WANTS A&W NOW

How is this coming along?

It's been open for a few months, but no A&W.
