Jesus Christ (sorry Ben) can we stick to the topic please.

There are lots of other threads to chat about all this other stuff.

This thread is about a Victoria Councilor ...that in all fairness spoke his mind about separating church and state with respect to spending public monies.

I am not saying that he addressed the topic with the wisdom of Job, but if he was any kind of guy, he should have considered the outcry.

Let’s stick with that...or God forrbid any other pearl words of wisdom that he might hork up over the holiday season.

Agreed. Except it wasn't really church and state. I am as anti-religion as anyone, but I love xmas trees and lights. :)

Ben's gone out of his way to pad the runtime on that CV (not uncommon in academia), but really - listing three major awards he DIDN'T receive with "declined", "decision pending" (that was 2010, just admit you failed Ben), and "recommended". That, plus the other declined scholarships lower down just makes him look like the former high school jock who brags about how he was "this close" to the NHL draft.

And 3 of his books are just translations of the same thing.

Sold? Surely he gives away all copies free for the betterment of society. Selling books is such a bourgeois, capitalist endeavour after all.

Kind of like Naomi Klein, the anti-capitalist capitalist that is worth some serious coin due to her books and her husbands documentaries etc....we call them champagne socialists who take advantage of the very system they want to bring down

That was an interesting read. It certainly is a very typical academic CV.  That said I have recently read a few things on the Siberian Expedition as I had no idea about our involvement there until the last few months. Fascinating part of Canadian History.

Ben blocked me on twitter but still sends me his spam emails.

I responded by sending Ben a note wishing him a happy Johnny Mac day. He responded thusly:

I am personally not a fan of John Macdonald, for several reasons, including:

All the best,

Ben

He sent me another SPAM email the other day.  Must not have deleted me from his address book the last time I asked him to.
