Looks like the Captain might have been having a bit of a rough day though!

I believe his decedent would eventually captain the Queen of the North.

FWIW....one of my Grandfather's letters referencing Clover Point. Lots of history there.

October 5, 1915

The “Rainbow” is going south on a 3 month “cruise” on Thursday.  They are going down as far south as South America.  They are taking men out of the barracks (about 40 or 50) and I don’t know whether they will send me.  I am not anxious to go because we go up for our efficiency exam on Friday and if they send us south we will not get it till we come back.  After our efficiency, we get 15 a day more.  I intend to get my A. B.s rating and get transferred to a Stokers rating then any time I want, I could get transferred back.

On the rifle range at clover point the R.N.C.V.R. whipped the “Rainbow” by 80 points. I am send home some postcards of the bunch and will bring home one of our magazines.

Well folks I close now because is 7 Bells.  S Long and Be Good

Awesome letter!

A touchstone to history in Victoria.

Besides target practice, the soldiers in training also used Clover Point and the fields to the West to practice digging and fighting in trenches.

There you go. Why not get the army back to dig the trench for the new sewer line from Clover to Odgen.

We don't have enough guys in the army now to dig a latrine.

Council will be considering some major changes to Clover Point at the meeting on Feb 11. The concept prepared by staff would see the loop closed to vehicles in favour of improved park space.

Because all the bits between Clover Pt and Holland Point Park aren't quite enough pedestrian space, let's close off the tiny bit at the bottom right where you can actually park with a good view of the waves.

What an absolute pack of muppets we have running the show.

Should make a nice scenic spot for the next homeless encampment.

And where are all the people who will congregate on Clover Point supposed to park? Oh that's right, COV thinks they will all walk or bike there.

The nearby homes who protested against anything to do with the sewage plant at Clover Point will be protesting about all the cars parking on their streets.

I do agree that in the previous design there was NO thought to the pedestrian at Clover Point, it was all about vehicles. But can't we accommodate both?

This city council seems to really hate us seniors who have trouble either walking or biking. More and more is closed off to us.

Yes, very easily. Hence, it's not going to happen.

In those idealized illustrations it's always a sunny day and everyone is fully activated. People are fit, energetic, and mobile. Even the people who are seated seem to be very dynamic and activated as they sit. Try to find a seated person who appears to be sitting still. (There are some, but they're not obvious.)

Apparently the major problem with Clover Point all these years was this: some people liked to sit quietly and enjoy the view, even when the weather wasn't ideal. Such people were ruining Clover Point by making it seem more like (barf) Cattle Point. No worries, the CoV will fix it by giving those people the boot. The CoV loves to fix things that weren't really broken, almost as much as the CoV loves to ignore things that have been broken for decades.

That's because every seating fixture has been fitted with the Dr. Ho® Electro-muscle stimulator.

Why is everyone waving in those pictures?  Some new street drug that makes everyone super friendly?
