When Hillside was rezoned a few years back they removed the auto repair use to avoid Sears opening up another service centre. As far as I know this is the reason why Canadian Tire is not opening any auto repair at this location.

It's cool to quote myself right?

There's a Target in Winnipeg that looks exactly the same as Hillside, also pending Canadian Tire renovation. I wonder if the delays are for similar reasons.

No mention of the load bearing on the second floor for this permit. 900k seems like a lot for some doors, paint and a sign.

I went by the store the other day and they are in the process of re-enforcing the second floor as HB mentioned.

If there is to be any car repair service bays I expect that will come in from the area near the loading bay behind the Thrifty store.

They do not have a large crew working at the location.

If you can like yourself, then obviously it's cool to quote yourself.

Ok. So the place might not be zoned for car repair then.

What's the point of a huge Canadian Tire without auto repair? It's like a London Drugs without a pharmacy.

^ I've never used auto repair at CT. But I'm a regular customer, and use their Options mastercard. I suspect that is most of their customer base. They can refer customers to Broadmead or Douglas CTs for auto repair.

The one time we took a car to CT for repair they added an extra decimal point to the scrap value of a part and ended up paying us.

Matt.

I believe the Douglas St location is closing along with the Cedar Hill/Shelbourne location.

I did not mind Canadian Tire for parts. Service was only in a pinch, but I did most of my own simple stuff like brakes and clutch.

Ah, who cares anyway. Pretty soon cars are going to be like Apple products where you're not even allowed to open them up, let alone tinker with them.

Canadian Tire gets all the certification's for people buying cars in the US and importing them, that has to be a chunk of change.

Wonder if the mall would agree to the auto repair in a separate building, much like the old Sears auto service.

Why does every Canadian Tire need to do auto repairs.

You could have the repair centre in a separate facility without all the other stuff that CT's sell.

God, I hope it's on a leash and inside.

And it doesn't come in contact with an Oak Bay cougar.

I walked past there today. They've really gutted the place. The building was almost new, I had figured they would need just minor changes. Obviously I'm not an engineer.
