With bus lanes and bikes lanes 100% over budget - and apparently unchangeable priorities - taxpayers can't afford any upgrades to Topaz Park. As I said in another thread, things will have to come off the table.

Especially when the only two choices are spend a lot and spend a lot plus some.

This is our typical City council. No doubt someone is going to point out that having a Frisbee golf course in the middle of a park and walkway is asking for an injury so then council will just say "so option one is answer then".

Exactly. There's never a "None of the above" option when it comes to the CoV spending my money.

seems an odd way to describe it all.  not sure it's intended to be "spiritual" or an occasion for reflection.  it's religious in nature.

it is. but the article just seemed to almost bend over backwards to avoid telling us it’s put on by a Christian church.

probably none.

but I suspect if a Muslim event was featured by an article on the topic the religion would be more prominent in the article.

Yes, because a Muslim event would not be part of the current assumed Christian paradigm that underlies our society.

Ideally, it should be. Not sure that's always the case though.

Youth can look forward to having a multi-use recreational space following city council’s decision Thursday to proceed with proposed designs for the Topaz Park artificial turf field, skateboard park and bike skills park.

Replacement of the artificial turf on Finlayson Field is the first phase of renovations in the Topaz Park Improvement Plan, and will be followed by construction of the skate and bike parks. Design concepts for each were approved by council at the Aug. 5 committee of the whole meeting.

Survey results from the public input phase saw 79 per cent of respondents agree that the proposed designs succeed in achieving the principles established by the plan.

It makes you wonder how they could get Topaz Park "so right" ... and Clover Point "so wrong"?

Zero consistency.

It is easier to get park designs right when public input supports the changes.

A $2.4-million infrastructure grant means the City of Victoria won’t have to scale back its plans to rebuild the playing fields at Topaz Park.

This week the city agreed to amend its financial plan to include the grant, meaning the city will not have to look for ways to trim the budget for the field replacement project.

The $4.38-million total budget for the project included $500,000 in contingency funding. The new estimated budget to replace the two aging fields is now expected to be $6.78 million, which includes the new grant money from Infrastructure Canada.

According to a city staff report, the cost of the project had increased due to current market conditions.

I am sure the potholes on CoV streets could serve a similar function for no cost to taxpayers.

Why fix potholes when you can leverage them to damage evil cars?
