It’s par for the course. The Opposition would get these sorts of non-answers all the time in the last term, multiple times in a row and sometimes via proxy if he didn’t want to stand before the Speaker himself.

It’s disrespectful and only deepens the frustration among Canadians.

The rack was 41.8 today. 63 cent spread with what most gas stations are charging.

The rack in Edmonton is 24.8, gas is priced 55 cents at the pump.

Who is the wholesaler for the Island? I know that we have to factor in that we buy most of our gas from US sources so theres the weakening Canbuck to factor in. Is the rack at $.418 inclusive of the exchange and shipping?

Yes, it’s the price at the wholesale terminals on the Island. It’s essentially the rate oil companies charge gas stations, if you will (for lack of a better example).

Today it dropped further to 39.10.

So if rack is $.391 to the Island then the margins here are potentially massive

While we don't know how much the cost to deliver the fuel is, we do know the rack in Vancouver is 1.6 cents lower. So let's say delivery is another 2 cents per litre on top of the rack. So if a station gets a delivery today, and continues to charge 1.049 which is the going rate at most stations, that's a huge spread of 63 cents, give or take. Now you need to subtract gas taxes from that, but we know GST falls with the lowered price, which leaves 8.x cents for carbon, 5.5 fo transit, and excise taxes of about a dozen cents, give or take?

One way to look at it is we should be below Vancouver’s gas prices simply due to their much higher gas taxes, even with our higher rack.

You can get Costco gas on the mainland at 88.9. Which means Costco here should be at around 82-85 cents. So this leads me to believe two things are at play: gas companies are charging more due to the relative risk of delivery but pricing that risk at the gas station, and/or stations are inflating prices/not reducing them with much urgency.

I believe the gas station down in Caddy Bay is now the lowest in the region at 94.9. Last I checked, Costco was still 99.9.

That station is notoriously the most expensive in the region. It often doesn’t even re-price, just keeps charging the rates other stations dropped from weeks earlier.

I’m going to deem that suspicious unless someone can verify. Rjag, we have a mission for you!

Village Service?  Gasbuddy is reporting 94.9 for them.  Costco 99.9, everywhere else 102-104.9

Lol 104.9 over here. I don’t know about the full serve place, they don’t post their prices.

Sounds like the pressure is one to curb oil production, which means we’ll be back at $1.50 per litre in no time.

Something smells fishy when gas is still north of a buck a litre (not all of us have Costco memberships!) but the rack is around 40 cents...

he filled up at 94.9 and now he’s driving around to burn all that fuel so he can go get another load at that great low price.

Keep in mind that "Costco on the mainland" is Port Coquitlam and Langley, none of the other locations have gas bars. 86.9 at both locations this morning, while it's 94.9 elsewhere. The Translink gas tax is $0.13 higher than the BCT gas tax.

^re: Village Service...took a drive by last night and the place looks shuttered. Maybe 94.9 was their inventory blowout price.

At any rate, Costco is down to 96.9 this morning. Damn...just filled up there last night.
