Apparently the police arrived in the late afternoon.

Isn't this what reserve police constables are for?  Or... gasp... traffic flaggers?

EDIT:  Was the issue with traffic direction or simply volume?

I would say "both" Seb'; no doubt many people were looking at the forecast and heading out yesterday in lieu of the expected rains today. We've attended the SF many times especially when our daughter and friends were younger, and I've never seen traffic like this. And if the police did make an appearance it was well after we left at 5pm since there were none in evidence to that point.

90 minutes to exit though?

There is only one road option in and out Stelly's Cross Road, so you can have all the traffic cops you want but until they put in another road to the north across the Mt Newton valley, it will be more of the same next year.

i can tell you from personal experience and observation more parking attendants and an actual traffic plan would have made a huge difference.

^My frustration with it comes from the fact that most of that mess could have be completely preventable. You weren't there, you didn't experience what I experienced. Get off your high horse.

The epitome of first world problems. I can assure you 1,000,000 Syrian refuges would gladly have exchanged places with you.

We just left at 3:20 and it took maybe 20 minutes. The big hang up is the four way stop just to the east. If the cops directed that properly it would help. Ie gave precedence to the heavy e/w traffic.

A cheap and yet predictable response. And yet somewhat ironic. Remind yourself of that the next time you complain about something like a slight reconfiguration of road in Beacon Hill Park.

Didn't go this year, but went for late lunch yesterday at the Brentwood Inn...not many folks realize that if you take Keating to W Saanich and then right onto Stelly's there is never more than a 5 minute line ....if any...once in the Fair parking area however....well that's another story in itself.

Left around 3:45 and Brentwood Village was not much busier than usual, not many cars trying to get off Stelly's.....

Cut Central Saanich police some slack. They were busy, for God's sake:

In my opinion Stelly's should become a one-way until the stop signs at either end, then hold traffic on those streets to allow the vehicles to just flow in one direction or the other once at the intersection. Keep the vehicles moving, that's all that's required. But no, they've got a 4-way on one end and a stop sign at the other, then they wonder why they have a problem?

It's simple, really, but the organizers don't care. It's always been mayhem.

I don't think anybody was blaming the police. In fact, the police should have never been involved, but for poor planning.

f=412&t=20161The animal rights activist group "The Critical Cat" make an appearance at the Saanich Fair during the 4H livestock auction. Parents were upset they were filming the kids. Security promptly escorted them out the gates.

Should have escorted them to the Zipper for a couple continuous hours.

I didn't go this year primarily due to memories of the traffic last year, glad I didn't !  It's really that 4-way, if they had someone there controlling traffic things would be a lot better.  Also have the two exits on the west only for turning right and the 2 exits to the east only for turning left with cross-traffic stopped to allow for a continuous flow of cars in or out rather than people having to stop and make a left turn potentially waiting for traffic.

I got the saanich fair experience today though.  Went to the petting zoo and saw animals, went to the food trucks behind the museum to get food, very busy crowds downtown today!  The fair has more animals but I can walk to the petting zoo.

They had a cop at the four-way directing traffic this afternoon. We went Sunday and Monday and experienced no traffic or exiting problems. It's all in the timing.

That's great. Having cops involved in lieu of teenagers was a good move.

Would you please stop telling Victoria people how to get around. I for one love Victoria driver's lack of map reading skills.

No, the cops were not on the fairgrounds directing traffic. They had about half a dozen teens at the exits directing. The cop was at further away at Stelly's and Wallace at the four way stop.

We did not stick around for Honeymoon Suite. Any reviews?
