Tesla Model Y Set to Take Top Spot as World's Best Selling Car in 2023

https://www.notatesl...ing-car-in-2023

Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, once said, "I say something, and then it usually happens. Maybe not on schedule, but it usually happens." In April 2021, Musk predicted that the Model Y would be the world's best-selling vehicle. He wasn't sure if it would happen in 2022, but he was confident the electric SUV would take the global crown from Toyota's Corolla in 2023.

According to a report from Focus to Move, the Model Y is now the fourth best-selling vehicle worldwide after an astonishing 88 percent jump from 2021 to 2022. There were 759,000 Model Ys sold last year, just 28,000 units behind the third-place Ford F-150 which has been the best-selling truck for the previous 46 years. Toyota claimed the top two spots, with the RAV4 at 870,000 and the Corolla selling 1.12 million.

The runway is clear for the Model Y to vie for the world's best-selling car title in 2023. There are three critical elements to achieve the goal: capacity, demand and competition.

I’ve never heard of Genesis

I own one, it is without a doubt the nicest car I have owned. That includes Mercedes and BMW's.

Ford showed this week that it’s not going to be as easy for traditional automakers to catch Tesla in the race to build the better electric vehicle, despite what Tesla’s doubters think.

Ford CEO Jim Farley was rather blunt about the problems that Ford experienced as it rolled out its hot EV models, the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning pickup.

While both vehicles have a long list of waiting customers, Farley admitted that Ford encountered numerous problems with their production.

“We didn’t know that our wiring harness for Mach-E was 1.6 kilometers longer than it needed to be. We didn’t know it’s 70 pounds heavier and that that’s [cost an extra] $300 a battery,” he said on a call with investors Thursday. “We didn’t know that we underinvested in braking technology to save on the battery size.”

Farley said these and other cost problems meant that Ford “left about $2 billion of profit on the table.”

It would appear the only thing that might stop the Model Y from being the best-selling car in the world this year will be production.

Only 5.6% market share, but it has grown from 3.4% to 5.6%.  More growth in market share than any other manufacturer.

Telsa - up 2.2%

Honda - up 1.4%

Nissan - up 0.7%

Al others - even or down

This EV driver loses 50% of his range in the winter. But he has a big tip for the CBC.

And it’s no big deal. It never is, when you’ve spent a $100k on a car.

Who is buying a Chevy Bolt?

82% of cars in Finland are electric, they know a bit about cold.  But it is true the more you go north there the fewer electrics there are.  Sudbury is probably the northern Finland of Canada.

Yes, they know how much it sucks to have to sit around superchargers in the winter.

It's actually considered to be in Northern Ontario.

Sudbury, officially the City of Greater Sudbury, is the largest city in Northern Ontario by population, with a population of 166,004 at the 2021 Canadian Census

You don't have to go very far north in this country to be considered in the north part of the province.

Sudbury is like further south than Portland, Oregon.

Ok, not really. But it’s close. It’s way south of Tacoma, for example.

True.  But the middle of the country gets cold.

So it has a shallower north.
